Exploring Life & Business with Nikki Knowles of Dallas Birth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Knowles

Hi Nikki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2011, I gave birth to my first daughter and I had a great birth experience. It was from there that I looked into becoming a doula. After working as a doula for several years, I felt the calling to become a Midwife. As I worked through my apprenticeship and Midwifery school, I was still doing doula work full time. I passed my licensing exam in January of 2020 and I have been attending Home Births as a Licensed and Certified Midwife for 5 years.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Haha! Anything worth having comes with challenges. Starting a semi-new career at 40 wasn’t easy. I’m a wife and a mother and launching a business, was not for the faint of heart. Luckily I have an incredible support system that helped me from losing my mind. LOL!

We’ve been impressed with Dallas Birth, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dallas Birth is a Home Birth based Midwife practice. Myself and my business partner, Becky Hines are behind the thriving practice. We support families looking for different options for prenatal care and birth. As a Midwife here in Dallas, families have many options, which is fantastic! Each Midwife has something different to offer and that is wonderful for our community. Personally, I’m known for being the life of the Home Birth party! Haha! Birth can be a fun and exciting experience and I think that’s why my families hire me. They know I bring good energy along with great skill and attention to detail.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
You don’t know everything!!! Be careful of the person who claims to know it all. That is a dangerous space to live in with this profession. I’ve learned to listen to moms and babies and use my experience as a guide. There has to be room for learning and respect in the laboring and birthing process.
