Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashad Hawkins.
Hi Rashad, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My Wife and I started working together at a Barber shop in 2019, not long after we ended up starting Colossal Cuts. For 5 years we operated Colossal Cuts Together and now own and operate TheColossal Suites. We still come in and cut hair but we now look to rent out spaces for other ambitious cosmetologist and barbers in the industry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not everything has just been rainbows and unicorns. In the beginning we struggled to find a location and when we found the place we still needed plumbing for shampoo bowls and sinks. After we finally got approval from the city to start plumbing we then needed inspection. And then It took us 1 year to find abTenant to rent a room, but we are proud to say The Colossal Suites are fully operational and our visions are becoming a reality.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a Salon Suite. My Wife and I are Barbers that specialize in all textures of hair and also offer facials, hair color, shampoos, Deep conditioning, and Loc maintenance. Each suite in our building would be home to various beauty professionals who’d specialize in there field. Currently we have a master Braider and Locs smith in Room 2. What would set our salon suite apart from others would be the intimacy and privacy clients would have. Our building offers high ceilings, fewer rooms than other salon suites, and bigger rooms as well.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Have faith in your self and your ideals. Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to get help from others. Do research in what ever you’re pursuing and try to learn as much as possible.
