Exploring Life & Business with Shannon Houchin of The Roadside Stand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Houchin

Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started with a love for entrepreneurship and helping others succeed. Over the years, I’ve built businesses that focus on community, creativity, and connection. One of my most rewarding projects has been The Roadside Stand, which began as a simple idea: to bring fresh, local produce directly to people who value quality and convenience.

What started with just peaches has grown into a thriving mobile farmers market, connecting Texas communities with seasonal produce and unique offerings. Along the way, I’ve helped others start their own roadside stands, turning this into not just a business but a movement.

The journey hasn’t been without challenges, but I’ve always focused on creating efficient, repeatable systems to make things work better—for myself and the people I serve. Today, I’m proud to say we’ve built a business that supports local farmers, empowers entrepreneurs, and brings the joy of fresh, seasonal food to neighborhoods across Texas.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business like this means constantly fighting against the status quo. People are so used to grocery store convenience that they don’t realize what they’re missing: real, fresh, local food. Educating customers while building trust in our quality wasn’t easy, especially in the beginning.

Then there’s logistics. Running a mobile market means dealing with unpredictable weather, keeping produce fresh on the move, and figuring out where to set up to actually get foot traffic. It’s a constant balancing act.

On top of that, finding reliable suppliers who share our commitment to quality wasn’t as straightforward as it should’ve been. And let’s not forget the struggle of getting communities and HOAs to take a chance on something new.

But every challenge taught us something. We figured out how to build efficient systems, communicate our value, and turn skeptics into loyal customers. It hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been worth every bump in the road.

We’ve been impressed with The Roadside Stand , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business, The Roadside Stand, is all about bringing the farm-to-table experience directly to communities. We specialize in delivering the freshest, locally grown, seasonal produce straight to neighborhoods through our mobile farmers market. What sets us apart is our commitment to quality and convenience—no middlemen, no grocery store markup, just real food Texans can trust.

We’re known for curating the best produce Texas has to offer, from juicy peaches to crisp vegetables, all hand-selected for flavor and freshness. Our mobile markets aren’t just about shopping; they’re about creating a connection—between farmers, families, and the communities we serve.

Brand-wise, we’re most proud of how we’ve built something real and impactful. We don’t just sell produce; we support local farmers, empower small business owners to start roadside stands, and give people access to food they can feel good about eating.

What we want your readers to know is this: when you shop with us, you’re getting more than groceries—you’re getting the best of Texas delivered with heart and purpose. Whether it’s for holiday meals, everyday cooking, or simply enjoying the taste of something fresh and real, The Roadside Stand is here to make it happen.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
