Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Killin & Kyle Casey Herridge.
Abbey Killin &, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi there, I’m Abbey Killin. The first step in Kyle Herridge and my music journey was forming a band after producing our first single, “Magnetizing” together! Originally, we named the band Abbey & The Afternoon —like Florence & The Machine but jazzier.
Following 2020, we developed a new, retro-inspired pop sound, which evolved into Killin’ Casey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ooof this is a great question! I think it’s challenging being an artist because there are so many elements I enjoy about the arts as a whole. It was (is) challenging for me to focus on just one path or one thing. I wanted to explore all paths! I’ve always been like that, since I was little I think. Call it ADHD, haha, but I am grateful I got to experience and learn from artists of all backgrounds, from acting and production, to music. I’ve learned a lot. I didn’t know if I was going to mention this or not, but I have also had mental health issues which I’ve taken time to overcome in my 20’s. I am proud of myself. Also, shoutout to Kyle for never making me feel rushed or like I did something wrong. I’m really grateful he allowed me to take my time getting back into the swing of things. He has been supportive like that through my 10+ years of knowing him as an awesome friend and collaborator. Kyle also runs his own business as a music teacher, inspiring artists across DFW. He’s taught me all the coolest (nerd-out worthy) piano tricks a singer could know.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our music hub is Killin’ Casey and we have story-centric, retro pop music with fun energy. I specialize in writing and voice and Kyle specializes in piano. We also love teaching. I work as a Studio Coordinator and Vocal Coach at Bach To Rock (Flower Mound). Kyle runs his own business teaching piano under HerridgeMusic.com.
What sets us apart is our left brain right brain collaboration. We both appreciate our strengths, weaknesses, and are always open to growth as a team. We have been working together since 2017 and it’s really cool to lean into how much we have learned. The pay off is awesome. We’re always excited to work on music together. What I feel we offer is music even we love listening to. If we absolutely love it and we’re jamming out in our car; mission success. If not, we will work on it until it is ready. Like Jeff Goldblum says… “life, uh… finds a way…”, so does music. I am confident the song will show us what it wants to be. 🙂
We have a collection of new songs in production we are excited to release soon. Feel welcome to follow us for updates, behind the scenes, & announcements @Killin.Casey!
How do you define success?
