Hidden Gems: Meet Adriana Speiker of Healing Rogue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Speiker.

Hi Adriana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It has felt the I got to where I am today because I finally started listening to myself. I grew up in Minnesota and graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a degree in psychology. I enlisted in the military as a Psychological Operations soldier and was deployed instantly to Iraq and then Afghanistan. This shaped the following decade of my life. After getting out of the Army in 2012, I became a mental health counselor because it felt more natural to me than anything else I had been doing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a road of discovery to get here. My biggest obstacle has been myself and to keep going in a direction that didn’t look like other practices. When I thought about being a counselor, I saw couches and chairs with bland artwork and people talking in circles. That was not for me and not what I wanted to do. People are fascinating and I love learning more about myself and others. Using yoga, body movement, and self-direction in therapy felt more natural to me and helpful in getting stuck people moving forward. This was my path to healing outside of a therapist’s office so I wanted to offer it to others. Being on my own and having a space that allows people to feel express and the move has given me permission to do therapy in trauma populations that need to incorporate more than talking.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a trauma therapist that specializes in first responders and military populations, active and veterans. This population has been trained to function in a crisis state, and I mean highly function. The training does not include a downshift in the nervous system or lifestyle so it can lead to many chronic issues and disconnection. I am a veteran and I am doing my own work to heal. That is why I call my practice “healing rogue.” It is circular, there is no end in healing in life but we progress to the next and the next and the next to keep us moving in life. I am healing and a healer. The therapy can adapt to what you need, every person is unique and the treatment needs to match.

What’s next?
This year has been about adapting and finding new professional resources. I have the majority of sessions online and offer in-person sessions with guidelines for safety. I am looking forward to future sessions with more fluidity and to having people in my space so there is more of a shared experience. Also, we are changed by this year so there is no going back so I will continue to offer video session and be more accessible.

Pricing:

  • Individual session (60 min) $140
  • Yoga/trauma group session (pending) $25
