Hidden Gems: Meet Chris Finegan of DFW Garage & Gate Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Finegan.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Chris Finegan, and I’m the owner of DFW Garage & Gate Services. I didn’t start this company by accident — I started it with intention, discipline, and a vision to build something that lasts.

My foundation in the industry began working alongside a close friend who had more than 20 years of experience in garage doors and gates. He taught me more than mechanics — he taught me standards. In this business, there’s no room for shortcuts. Garage doors and gates are the most frequently moving components of a home. They carry weight, tension, and responsibility. When they fail, they disrupt daily life and compromise security.

I became obsessed with mastering the craft. I studied spring systems, structural balance, motor performance, and access control until I understood not just how to fix problems — but how to prevent them. I took pride in clean work, clear communication, and leaving every property better than I found it.

The turning point came when I realized I didn’t just want to be skilled — I wanted to build something that reflected my name. I saw too many homeowners frustrated by poor service and temporary repairs. I knew I could create a company built on professionalism, accountability, and long-term trust. That belief pushed me to take the risk and start DFW Garage & Gate Services.

Building a company from the ground up isn’t easy. It requires resilience, sacrifice, and consistency when no one is watching. But that process shaped me not only as a business owner, but as a leader. Every challenge strengthened my mindset and sharpened my standards.

What drives me most is transformation. A garage door or gate is more than a mechanical system — it defines curb appeal, increases property value, and protects what matters most inside. Helping homeowners across the Dallas–Fort Worth area upgrade both the performance and appearance of their properties is something I take seriously.

DFW Garage & Gate Services isn’t just about repairs or installations. It’s about building trust, raising the standard, and creating a legacy rooted in craftsmanship and integrity.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not — and I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful.

In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was simply getting the phone to ring. Building a client base from scratch is humbling. You can have the skills, the experience, the tools, and the vision — but none of that matters if people don’t know you exist. Gaining traction, building trust in the community, and getting consistent calls was one of the toughest phases.

There were days where I questioned if I was doing enough. Marketing, branding, reviews, word of mouth — I had to learn that side of the business quickly. It wasn’t just about mastering garage doors and gate systems; it was about mastering business ownership.

But those challenges shaped me. They forced me to sharpen my systems, improve customer experience, follow up consistently, and build real relationships in the DFW community. Every slow week taught me something. Every satisfied customer turned into momentum.

Now when the phone rings, I don’t take it for granted. I see it as proof that consistency, integrity, and hard work compound over time.

And that’s what building DFW Garage & Gate Services has really been about — earning trust, one job at a time

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
DFW Garage & Gate Services is a locally owned and operated company specializing in residential and light commercial garage door and gate repair, installation, and maintenance throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area. We service everything from broken springs and off-track doors to custom gate automation systems and full door replacements.

What sets us apart is our commitment to professionalism, communication, and long-term relationships. Garage doors and gates are the most frequently used moving components of a home or commercial property, yet they’re often overlooked until something breaks. We focus not only on fixing the issue but improving performance, safety, and curb appeal.

I built this company on integrity and craftsmanship. I learned the trade hands-on under someone with over 20 years of industry experience before launching on my own. That foundation taught me that details matter — from the quality of the hardware we install to the way we communicate with homeowners and property managers.

Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the trust we’re building in the DFW community. Every call, every service appointment, and every review represents a relationship earned. Our goal isn’t just to complete a job — it’s to become the company clients call for years to come.

At DFW Garage & Gate Services, we stand for reliability, transparency, and high-quality workmanship. We want people to know that when they call us, they’re getting someone who genuinely cares about protecting and improving their property.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned about mentorship is that it doesn’t always start formal. My first mentor wasn’t someone I met at a networking event — it was someone I worked under. I learned by showing up early, asking questions, staying humble, and being willing to do the hard work. If you bring value and consistency, mentors naturally invest in you.

When it comes to networking, I’ve found that relationships grow from authenticity, not transactions. Especially in a service-based business like garage door and gate repair, your reputation is everything. I focus on building real connections with homeowners, property managers, contractors, and other local business owners. Word of mouth has been powerful.

My advice would be: don’t chase status — chase growth. Be coachable. Put yourself in rooms where you’re the least experienced person. Ask for guidance, not shortcuts. And most importantly, follow through. A lot of people ask for advice but don’t execute on it.

Mentorship has played a major role in how I operate today. The foundation I built learning under someone with decades of experience helped me launch DFW Garage & Gate Services with confidence. Now, as the company grows, I try to pass that same mindset forward by leading with integrity, work ethic, and accountability.
