Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennette Berrios.
Hi Dennette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I founded Elite Legal Consulting, LLC because after spending years working on both the mortgage servicer side and the law firm side of the default servicing industry, I realized there was a major disconnect between the two — and I understood both perspectives.
Working in operations allowed me to see firsthand where communication gaps, missing documentation, unrealistic expectations, and workflow breakdowns were creating frustration for everyone involved. I saw law firms struggling to move files efficiently because they were not always receiving the information or documentation needed from servicers, while at the same time servicers were becoming frustrated with delays, communication issues, and operational inconsistencies from their legal partners.
What stood out to me most was that both sides were usually working toward the same goal, but they were not always aligned operationally or strategically in a way that allowed them to truly function as partners.
That realization is ultimately what led me to create Elite Legal Consulting.
I often describe myself as a “matchmaker” within the industry because my role is centered around building and strengthening relationships between servicers, investors, law firms, and title companies across the United States. Because I understand the operational challenges and expectations from both sides, I am able to help firms identify areas where they can improve service, communication, and responsiveness, while also helping servicers better understand what firms need in order to operate successfully and efficiently.
My approach has never been transactional. Relationship building has always been the foundation of what I do. I believe the strongest partnerships happen when communication is honest, expectations are clear, and both sides feel supported operationally.
Through Elite Legal Consulting, my goal is not only to help companies grow, but to help create long-term partnerships that improve workflow, communication, and overall success throughout the industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were definite difficulties but I always look at every issue as an opportunity and what lesson that can be learned from it. More importantly, I have always had my faith that God is leading my path and opening doors to relationships that have helped me along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Elite Legal Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My consulting company is also about connection. The relationships built in this industry can be almost incestual. The industry is huge but the circles can be small so the key is to never burn a bridge because you never know who you could be working with again in a year or two. I have been been told that I am pushy without being pushy and that’s what most people in my industry like because everyone is busy but if just the right amount of tapping on the shoulder to someone can get a dinner or lunch lined up that’s helpful to everyone. Not to mention I try to embrace doing something interactive for my clients to host servicers. Everyone is always taken to boring dinners or happy hours. I try to do things that allow the locals to get together in a way that they will remember. I have often been told that if someone sees my invite come through they will always accept unless they will be out of town because I always provide a good time. It doesn’t have to be the fanciest but my event will be the most fun based on the relationship that I have with the servicer. I get as many different servicers as I can in one room so they can discuss what’s happening in the industry amongst their peer and myself and the law firm will cover the room or space to place ourselves in the conversations that will make the most impact for that particular person
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
What i’ve found to be the most important thing is to have a listening ear to what the servicer or the law firm needs. Personally and professionally. Building the relationship with the person I’m talking to means they feel they can trust me. Once they trust me they will likely trust who I bring to them.
