Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Bullock.
Hi Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a travel advisor wasn’t a straight line—it was built through years of serving people, solving problems, and learning how meaningful experiences can change lives.
Before launching Wander World Destinations, I spent years working in executive support, real estate, and operations management. Those roles taught me how to manage complex details, create exceptional client experiences, and stay calm under pressure—skills that now serve me well as a travel designer.
Travel has always been a passion of mine. I’ve spent more than 20 years helping friends, family, and colleagues plan trips, often being the person everyone called when they needed advice, recommendations, or help navigating the unexpected. Eventually, I realized that what I was doing naturally could become a business.
In 2024, I officially launched Wander World Destinations with a mission to help people travel with confidence, intention, and ease. I specialize in creating memorable experiences for busy professionals, couples, families, and travelers who want more than just a vacation—they want meaningful moments and lasting memories.
As a Certified Autism Travel Professional and Certified Accessible Travel Advocate, I’m especially passionate about making travel more inclusive and accessible. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to explore the world in a way that feels comfortable, safe, and enjoyable.
Today, my business continues to grow through referrals, community involvement, and the trust of clients who know I treat their trips as if they were my own. Whether I’m planning a luxury honeymoon, a family celebration abroad, or a women’s group getaway, my goal remains the same: to help people experience the world while creating memories they’ll carry for a lifetime.
What started as a passion has become a purpose, and I’m excited to continue helping people see more of the world—one unforgettable journey at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but looking back, the challenges are what gave me the confidence to build the business I have today.
When I started Wander World Destinations, I was actually between jobs. Like many people facing a career transition, I found myself asking what was next and how I wanted to move forward. What started as an uncertain season became an opportunity to bet on myself and turn a lifelong passion for travel into a business.
One of the biggest struggles was navigating the financial uncertainty that comes with entrepreneurship. Building a business requires investing time, money, and energy long before you see consistent results. There were moments when I questioned whether I was making the right decision, especially when growth felt slower than I had hoped.
At the same time, I was balancing family responsibilities and later caring for my mother as she battled Alzheimer’s disease. Losing her was one of the most difficult experiences of my life. Learning how to manage grief while continuing to serve clients and grow a business tested me in ways I never expected.
I’ve also had to overcome the misconception that travel advisors are no longer needed. Part of my journey has been educating travelers about the value of professional guidance, personalized planning, advocacy, and support before, during, and after a trip.
The road hasn’t been easy, but every challenge taught me resilience, adaptability, and faith in my abilities. Today, I look back on that season between jobs as the moment that pushed me to create something of my own. What felt uncertain at the time became the foundation for a business that allows me to help others experience the world and create lifelong memories.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the founder and lead travel designer of Wander World Destinations, a boutique travel agency dedicated to creating personalized travel experiences that go far beyond booking flights and hotels.
I specialize in luxury leisure travel, group travel, destination celebrations, honeymoons, and accessible travel planning. Whether I’m designing a romantic getaway to Bali, coordinating a multigenerational family trip to Japan, planning a milestone birthday celebration, or helping a traveler with accessibility needs explore the world with confidence, my goal is always the same: to create seamless, meaningful experiences tailored to each client’s unique vision.
What sets Wander World Destinations apart is the level of personalization and care that goes into every trip. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all vacations. I take the time to understand my clients’ travel styles, interests, concerns, and goals so that every itinerary feels intentional and personal. My clients know they have someone advocating for them before, during, and after their travels.
I’m especially proud of my commitment to inclusive travel. As a Certified Autism Travel Professional and Certified Special Needs Travel Advocate, I work to ensure that travelers with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, mobility challenges, or other unique needs can experience the joy of travel with confidence and dignity. Representation and accessibility matter, and I’m passionate about helping make travel more attainable for everyone.
Another thing I’m proud of is the community we’ve built around travel. Through group experiences, women’s travel opportunities, educational content, and client relationships, Wander World Destinations has become more than a travel agency—it’s a trusted resource and a partner in creating life-changing experiences.
I want readers to know that travel is not just about visiting a destination. It’s about celebrating milestones, reconnecting with loved ones, stepping outside your comfort zone, healing, learning, and creating memories that last a lifetime. My mission is to help people do that in a way that feels effortless, personalized, and unforgettable.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
If I had to choose one quality that has contributed most to my success, it would be resilience.
Building a business requires the ability to keep moving forward even when things don’t go as planned. There have been seasons of uncertainty, setbacks, financial challenges, personal loss, and moments when progress felt slower than I wanted it to be. Through it all, I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding obstacles—it’s about continuing to show up, learn, adapt, and grow despite them.
Resilience has helped me navigate career transitions, launch a business from the ground up, care for my family during difficult times, and continue serving my clients at a high level no matter what was happening behind the scenes. It’s also allowed me to take risks, embrace new opportunities, and trust the process even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed.
I believe resilience is paired with a genuine commitment to serving others. My clients trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives—honeymoons, family reunions, milestone celebrations, and dream vacations—and I never take that responsibility lightly. That commitment motivates me to keep learning, improving, and finding solutions no matter what challenges arise.
Success rarely happens because everything goes perfectly. In my experience, it comes from having the determination to keep going when things get hard and the willingness to grow through every experience along the way.
