Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Levan.
Hi Heidi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My career has always centered around caring for people during some of their most vulnerable moments. I began as a Pediatric ICU nurse before pursuing my Master’s in Nurse Anesthesia and becoming a CRNA. Over the last decade, I’ve had the privilege of working in a Level 1 trauma center, where I developed a deep appreciation for compassionate care by meeting patients where they are in their most vulnerable state, and providing clinically excellent care to help them recover.
Throughout my years in healthcare, I noticed a significant gap in what happens after surgery, as many are left navigating recovery largely on their own. I saw firsthand how overwhelming the postoperative period could be for both patients and their families.
That realization led me and my co-founder, Eliza McCanles, to launch The PostOp Collective, a concierge postoperative recovery company that provides elevated, in-home nursing care for plastic surgery, orthopedic and GYN patients. Our mission is simple: to redefine postoperative nursing care by delivering bespoke, discreet, and unparalleled recovery services.
Today, I’m passionate about combining healthcare and entrepreneurship to create innovative solutions that improve patient care while helping redefine what exceptional postoperative recovery can look like.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While there have certainly been challenges along the way, I view them as part of the journey rather than obstacles.
One of the biggest growth points was creating awareness around a service that was relatively new to our market. Many patients and even healthcare professionals didn’t realize there was an option for high-touch, concierge postoperative care. Eliza and I spent a great deal of time educating people about the importance of recovery and how the right support can positively impact the entire surgical experience.
Another important lesson has been learning how to grow thoughtfully. From the beginning, we’ve been committed to providing an exceptional patient experience, so we’ve been intentional about building the right systems, processes, and team to support that vision while maintaining the highest standards of care. Our nurses exhibit outstanding skill and compassion, and I’m deeply proud of the team we have.
Personally, the transition from clinician to entrepreneur has been incredibly rewarding. While there was a learning curve in areas like business operations, marketing, and leadership, it’s been exciting to develop new skills and build something that is making a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.
As you know, we’re big fans of The PostOp Collective . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The PostOp Collective is a concierge postoperative recovery company that provides bespoke in-home recovery care for patients recovering from surgery. We specialize in supporting plastic surgery, orthopedic, and women’s health patients throughout the critical recovery period, helping bridge the gap between surgery and healing.
What sets us apart is our unique combination of clinical expertise and hospitality-driven service. As experienced nurses, we understand the medical complexities of recovery, but we also recognize that healing is about more than clinical care, it’s about making patients feel supported, comfortable, and confident throughout the process.
As a brand, I’m most proud of the standard we’ve created. We’ve built a company of exceptional nurses centered on excellence, compassion, and professionalism, while redefining what postoperative care can look like. We want people to know that recovery is not an afterthought and that it’s an essential part of the surgical journey.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Dallas is the combination of opportunity and lifestyle. I absolutely love building a business in a city that has so many connections and opportunities. I’m also a food lover and the food scene is incredible. The community is supportive, and as someone who travels frequently with my husband, having access to DFW airport is a huge perk. I know travel can be a pain, but we are truly blessed to have both DFW and Love Field (amongst some smaller airports as well) in the area.
If I had to choose something I like least, it would be the traffic (I think that’s a common complaint!).
