Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyane Jackson.
Hi Keyane , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into this field didn’t start in therapy, it actually started in education. I earned my Bachelor’s degree and began working as a teacher, where I started to notice how many gaps there were when it came to supporting students emotionally. There were moments where I could see kids struggling, but there were limits to what I could do in that role. It started to feel like I was losing students along the way, not because they didn’t have potential, but because they didn’t have the support they truly needed.
Helping people has always come naturally to me. I’ve always been the person friends and family come to when they’re going through something, and even in everyday life, I find that people feel comfortable opening up to me, even complete strangers. That ability to connect with people on a deeper level is what pushed me to pursue something more.
That led me to earn my Master’s degree in School Counseling and transition into the mental health field, where I could have a greater impact. A big part of my journey is also rooted in my grandfather, who has always been one of my biggest cheerleaders. Even in moments where I questioned myself or felt overwhelmed by the process, he consistently reminded me that he believed I would be a great therapist. His belief in me stayed with me, and it ultimately inspired the name Golden Horizon Therapy, as a reflection of hope, growth, and the vision he always had for me.
As I grew in this space, I became more intentional about the kind of environment I wanted to create, one that feels real, safe, and allows people to show up as they are. That vision is what led me to create Golden Horizon Therapy.
Getting to where I am today has taken a lot of consistency, growth, and self-reflection. I’m currently working in education while continuing to build my practice and expand my impact. Everything I’ve experienced, both personally and professionally, shapes how I show up for my clients. My goal is to help people understand themselves on a deeper level, improve their relationships, and create lasting change in their lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people in this field, the journey has required a lot of patience, consistency, and self-discipline. While I was working toward my Master’s degree, I was also working full-time as a teacher and showing up as a mom, which came with its own set of challenges. There were moments where I felt stretched thin and had to learn how to manage my time, energy, and priorities in a way that allowed me to keep going.
Even now, I’m still in the process of transitioning. I work as a school counselor during the day and a therapist in the evenings, which can be demanding at times. Managing both roles while working toward licensure and continuing to build my practice requires a high level of discipline and intentionality.
There have also been moments of self-doubt, especially while stepping into private practice and building Golden Horizon Therapy. It requires me to trust myself, stay consistent, and keep showing up even when things feel uncertain.
At the same time, those challenges have been some of my greatest teachers. They’ve helped me build resilience, strengthen my confidence, and deepen my empathy for others who are navigating their own transitions. That perspective shows up in the work I do with my clients, especially when they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of their next steps.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Golden Horizon Therapy was created from both my professional experience and my personal journey. I’ve been in the client seat myself. I know what it feels like to carry things you don’t always have the space to say out loud, to need somewhere you can be honest, raw, and fully yourself without feeling judged. Because of the challenges and experiences I’ve gone through, I understand why it’s so important to have someone who can hold space for you, while also holding you accountable.
My approach to therapy is centered around creating that balance. I provide a space where clients can openly process what they’re going through, but I also help them understand their patterns, their triggers, and how those things show up in their relationships and daily life. I specialize in working with high-conflict couples and individuals navigating anxiety and depression, especially those who feel stuck in cycles they don’t know how to break.
With couples, I help partners slow down the conflict, improve communication, and truly hear each other instead of reacting. With individuals, I focus on emotional awareness, regulation, and helping them make sense of their experiences so they can move forward differently.
What sets my practice apart is that I don’t believe in surface-level work. I’m engaged in the process with my clients. I’m honest, direct when needed, and intentional about helping them create real change, not just temporary relief. At the same time, I prioritize creating a space where people feel seen as a whole person, not judged, not dismissed, and not reduced to just their struggles.
I’m also deeply passionate about breaking cycles. A lot of the patterns people struggle with didn’t start with them, but they can end with them. I want to create a space where people from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences feel comfortable showing up and doing that work.
Golden Horizon Therapy represents growth, healing, and forward movement. It’s about helping people not just get through what they’re facing, but truly understand themselves and create something different for their future.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m someone who learns a lot through real, everyday content. I follow a number of mental health professionals and relationship experts on social media and often save videos that resonate with me so I can go back, reflect, and take notes. It’s a way for me to stay engaged, continue learning, and see different perspectives in the field.
