Hidden Gems: Meet Maressa Pinnock of Ressa Design Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maressa Pinnock.

Hi Maressa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started during one of the most unexpected seasons of my life, while planning my own wedding. Growing up, I always admired my mom and the way she naturally created beautiful experiences and brought people together. I knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps in some way, but I never quite knew when that pivot in my own life would take shape.

That moment came when my wedding planner unexpectedly quit during the planning process. What could have been a stressful situation ended up becoming the turning point that pushed me fully into my creativity. I stepped in to take over the design and planning myself, and through that experience, I realized how naturally design, storytelling, and spatial thinking came to me.

My background in architecture heavily influenced the way I approached weddings and experiences. I became focused not just on décor, but on atmosphere, flow, emotion, and how every detail contributes to the overall experience. As I shared my process and creative vision, people connected with the intentionality behind it, and that became the foundation for Ressa Design Collective.

Today, Ressa has evolved into a design-forward creative studio specializing in wedding styling, creative direction, and immersive experiences that blend architecture, interiors, fashion, and storytelling. What started as an unexpected challenge became the beginning of a brand that feels deeply personal and fully aligned with who I am creatively.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has actually been a very rewarding journey overall, but like any creative path, there were moments that pushed me to grow. One of the biggest shifts happened when my wedding planner unexpectedly stepped away during the planning of my own wedding. While it initially caught me off guard, it ended up becoming the moment that introduced me to what I now do professionally.

I also went through a period of refining my vision and figuring out exactly what I wanted Ressa Design Collective to represent. I knew I wanted it to feel elevated, intentional, and rooted in design, even if that looked different from a traditional wedding planning company. That process required patience, creativity, and trusting my instincts.

More than anything, the journey has been about evolution, allowing the brand to naturally grow into something that fully reflects my background in architecture, my love for storytelling, and my passion for creating meaningful experiences.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Ressa Design Collective is a multidisciplinary design studio specializing in wedding styling, interiors, creative direction, brand activations, and immersive experiences. What makes the brand unique is the architectural foundation behind everything we create. With my background in architecture, I’ve always viewed weddings and events similarly to how large-scale design projects are approached, with intentional planning, spatial understanding, storytelling, and a deep consideration for how people move through and experience a space.

As weddings have evolved, clients are looking for more than décor; they want fully immersive environments and thoughtfully curated experiences. That evolution is what naturally connects interiors, architecture, and event design. Designing a wedding at a high level requires many of the same layers involved in creating a building or interior space, concept development, visual cohesion, spatial flow, project coordination, atmosphere, materiality, and emotional impact. I believe understanding space and design on an architectural level allows us to create experiences that feel elevated, intentional, and timeless.

At Ressa, we specialize in wedding styling, interiors, experiential design, visual storytelling, and curated brand moments for clients who value aesthetics and thoughtful execution. We approach each project holistically, ensuring every detail contributes to a larger vision and experience rather than simply focusing on individual design elements.

What I’m most proud of is building a brand that authentically reflects the intersection of architecture, interiors, culture, fashion, and experience design. Ressa is more than a wedding brand, it’s a creative studio rooted in intentional design and the belief that spaces and experiences should leave a lasting emotional impression.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I don’t think there’s one specific childhood memory that stands out above the rest. What I remember most is the feeling of being young and surrounded by family, everyone together, life feeling simple, warm, and full. Those moments of connection, laughter, and togetherness are what stayed with me most, and what I’ve come to value even more as I’ve gotten older.
