Hidden Gems: Meet Mariela Pena of Blush Butterfly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariela Pena.

Hi Mariela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Mariela Pena and I am the owner of Blush Butterfly. I went to school for business and graduated with my bachelors at UTD and then obtained my MBA at TWU. I still work full-time but eventually I want to focus on my business full-time. My uncles are my inspiration and they inspired me to have a business of my own. I’ve always had the desire to be my own boss but I didn’t know how or when. All I knew was that I wanted something of my own, so I started making craft videos and in December 2019, my TikTok video blew up. I saw other businesses on TikTok and I wasn’t going to let 2020 go by without opening my business, so I set a date and released my first “bundle,” which included a makeup bag, rose earrings, personalized mirror, and a matching scrunchie.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I love this question! On my launch date, I had one customer. And it stayed that way for a week. I was devastated, so I prayed and prayed. The following Friday, a video of me making my only order blew up on TikTok and I sold out. My sisters then surprised me with Sprinkles cupcakes to celebrate! Moral of the story, don’t give up!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Blush Butterfly?
The majority of my products are butterfly inspired but I sell a variety of personalized items like milk cartons and make-up bags and they can also be purchased as a bundle. My number one seller right now is the Butterfly Milk Carton and the Stay Hydrated Bundle. The Stay Hydrated Bundle includes a butterfly shirt, a butterfly milk carton, satin scrunchie, and a choker.

All of my products can be purchased at blushbutterfly.com

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom has been my supporter since day one. The first day that I sold out, she was hands-on and was ready to help. She also makes all of my satin scrunchies and weeds out butterflies for my bottles.

My sisters, Kim and Denise, are always open to helping me when I need it. They give me their feedback with new product ideas and assist me with packaging orders. I have a support system at home and I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.
