Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Diaz.
Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a kid, I always loved photography. I would take photos at all the family functions, vacations, my family, etc. For my birthday and Christmas, I always wanted the latest point-and-shoot cameras. I just loved it and loved the excitement of getting my film rolls developed to prints. When I turned 18, I decide to start side business and actually start charging people for services. The rest is history. Now, I love shooting weddings and events more than anything. My company specializes in photography high-value, high-production weddings, and events. We recently launched our office in Dallas, and I personally have moved my primary residence to Dallas as well. We still operate in New Orleans and Dallas, and I also have a place in New Orleans still as well. However, my new roots are now in Dallas, and I split time between the two cities. Dallas is such a thriving city and market, and I could not be more excited to be in the city.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Moving/launching into a new market is never an easy thing, and success in that market does not happen overnight. Our challenge is having to prove ourselves when I have been doing photography for over a decade. However, I know it takes time to earn trust from people in the industry and community. Thankfully, we already have amazing relationships in the city and are already beginning to see great traction. Over the next year to two years, I have a feeling we will have exceeded our goals, and I cannot wait to see it all come fruition.

Mateo & Company is a luxury brand specializing predominantly in high-value, high-production, wedding & event photography. We also throw really bad a** parties for the local community of top wedding & event vendors, local influencers, and business community leaders. These exclusive events are held in New Orleans & Dallas, and the goal of them is to bring the community together and some of the events are also to raise money for local charities at the same time.
The most important thing to Mateo & Company is the experience our clients have. There is no doubt you will get stunning photos, but the experience is what is attached to those photos forever.
We have a Creative Coordinator/Stylist that is on every wedding, in addition to our photographers, there to help ensure the entire day is fun for our clients but that everyone is also fabulous at the same time. Our couples and our planners LOVE that we provide this.
Mateo & Company has been published all over, including- People’s Magazine, BravoTV, Entertainment Tonight, Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks, NY Times, and many more. We have also been named ‘The Knot’s Hall of Fame’ for being voted ‘The Knot’s Best of Weddings’ year after year by his clients.
Our founder & lead photographer, Matt (‘Mateo’) Diaz, is a local community leader in Dallas & New Orleans. He has served on many boards and committees for national organizations, national events, as well as major local events & organizations.
Our clients are fun, fabulous, and love to have a good time. We love to make sure our wedding couples have the best day ever while getting incredible photos at the same time.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The pandemic really allowed us to evaluate what is most important to us personally and professionally. One thing we learned for sure is that we love our weekends. We are not a turn-and-burn photography company, pushing out as many weddings and events as possible. We are more boutique in the sense of providing experiences for our clients and not overwhelming ourselves with quantity over quality.
Our clients that come to us come to us not only for incredible photos but again for the experience that they have with us.
