Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Mendoza.
Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my business originally in Upland, California in 1994 and continued growing my Financial Services company since then. In 2020 during COVID, having a brick and mortar location no longer made sense as I shifted my practice to Zoom. 100% of my business became remote. Since no one was impacted by my regional location, we decided to consider making a change of location after 26 years in the same area. I had representatives in Southern California as well as Pennsylvania, so I felt good about making a change. Although our business suffered a little during COVID, we were still doing okay and better than most.
With 2 kids relocating to the DFW area in Texas in 2016, we decided to make a move bringing our autistic son with us. Unfortunately our 3 oldest kids & 5 grandkids remained in California. We listed our home in fall of 2020 and officially moved to Texas in February 2021. I opened an executive suite location in Lewisville, Texas. In May 2021 we moved into our new home in Red Oak, Texas. Moved our office to DeSoto, Texas to be closer to home and after 2 more years of building relationships and actively engaged in the Red Oak Area Chamber of Commerce, found an office location in my home City of Red Oak. Although it was a small office, it was bigger than the executive space I had at the prior 2 locations.
Our business continued to grow with referrals Nationally as well as many new clients in Ellis County which is our County South of Dallas.
In October 2025 I found a larger office location with great highway exposure just a mile South of my former location, which now enabled me to have enough space for a space to hold live trainings and public financial literacy workshops.
Since moving to Texas, knowing absolutely no one in the area, I have built hundreds of new relationships. In 5 years our business has grown over 45%, where we were static for the previous 5 years.
Although people need help financially in all parts of the Country, living and operating our business here is very different than California. The people are much more welcoming and just plane nicer.
I can say without a shadow of doubt, God had his hand on everything that occurred. From seeing no path to move, to opening a path. From starting at the wrong part of the State trying to find a new home to directing us to an unknown City called Red Oak where we would find a new home as if it was built exactly as we would have wanted it. Then to place us in a location surrounded by so many wonderful people.
It is clear we are here for the rest of our lives and couldn’t be happier.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Operating a business in an area with no friends or established relationships is of course going to be challenging without a plan. But I came with a plan to dedicate 1 year of focusing on building relationships and making friends and not trying to “sell” anyone anything.
I came to serve my community as I have learned before attempting to take withdrawals, you need to make deposits. This has been my practice throughout my entire business career.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mendoza & Mendoza LLC?
In my firm I represent a company by the Name of Primerica, which is the largest financial services marketing organization in North America, listed on the NYSE under the symbol of PRI.
I run an Investment Advisory Firm and offer Investment accounts such as Mutual Funds, Annuities and Separately Managed Accounts (SMA’s). We as an organization offer Term Life Insurance as well as Home Equity Loans. My licenses are Life Insurance, Series 6, 63, 26 & 65 for investments registered in many States as well as being an Mortgage Loan originator registered with NMLS in the State of Texas.
My goal is to help families protect their assets, become debt free and become financially independent. I also serve Small Businesses, School Districts, non-profits and small Municipalities.
What I am most proud of my brand is I have the ability to expand my agency as large as I want Nationally while at the same time having a huge selection of financial products to offer clients. This allowis me and my representatives to fully customize plans for each individual client we have the opportunity to serve.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
#1 Master Building Relationships.
#2 Have a clear and precise marketing plan.
#3 Embrace rejection. Very few people will be supportive, especially the ones who say they will.
#4 Your path will be lonely.
#5 Do NOT have a Plan B.
#6 NEVER QUIT! You may want to some times, but you can’t.
