Hidden Gems: Meet Ryan Mason of Ryan Mason State Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Mason.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a family that valued hard work, integrity, faith, and treating people the right way. One of the biggest influences in my life was my grandfather, a World War II veteran who commanded an Army tank in the European theater during the war. After returning home, an unfortunate accident impacted the use of his arm, but instead of letting that define him, he built a small-town car dealership and became a respected businessman in our community.

I spent a lot of time around him growing up, listening to stories and learning lessons that shaped who I am today. He believed a man’s word was his bond, that people should always be treated fairly, and that excellent customer service was non-negotiable. He led by example, and I saw firsthand how trust, honesty, and relationships could build a successful business and a meaningful life.

Those experiences sparked my own entrepreneurial spirit early on. I always had an interest in business, taking risks, building things, and creating opportunities. Eventually, I had the opportunity to take over my grandfather’s dealership, which was both an honor and an incredible learning experience. Over time, though, my path expanded beyond business alone and into ministry.

For several years, I served in pastoral roles in both Texas and Tennessee. Those years taught me a great deal about leadership, communication, compassion, and walking alongside people through both victories and hardships. Looking back, that season shaped the way I lead today just as much as my business experience did.

Eventually, life brought me full circle back to my entrepreneurial roots when I pursued an opportunity to become a State Farm insurance agent. I started from scratch with zero customers and a lot of faith and optimism to build the agency one relationship at a time. Through a lot of hard work, consistency, and a commitment to serving people well, we’ve grown into one of the top agencies in our area. What I enjoy most is that our work goes far beyond insurance policies — we get to help families, business owners, and individuals protect what matters most and navigate important moments in life.

Education has always been important to me. My mother is a retired schoolteacher and now operates her own early childhood learning business. I earned a business degree from LeTourneau University as well as a theological degree from Liberty University, along with various professional certifications over the years. In fact, I probably have enough education for two people. My wife jokes that she deserves an honorary degree herself for taking care of the kids while I was busy going to school — and honestly, she’s right.

At the end of the day, I believe the values my grandfather modeled decades ago still matter today: work hard, keep your word, treat people right, and build something that genuinely serves others. Those principles have guided every chapter of my journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I don’t believe there is an easy road to success, whether you are leading in ministry, business, or any other meaningful endeavor. Every season of my journey has come with challenges and obstacles that required growth, perseverance, and adaptability.

In the church world, there can be leadership challenges, limited resources, and sometimes even organizational or political dynamics that make progress difficult. You are constantly working with people, emotions, and high expectations, which requires patience, wisdom, and resilience.

In the business world, the challenges are different but just as real. You face changing economic conditions, corporate restructuring, shifts in consumer behavior, and constant industry evolution that can disrupt established ways of thinking and operating. Especially in today’s environment, business owners have to be willing to adapt quickly while still staying true to their core values.

I think struggle is one of the main reasons many people avoid leadership or entrepreneurial roles altogether. The responsibility can be heavy, and there are no guarantees. But at the same time, I believe struggle is often the price of building something meaningful. Growth rarely happens inside our comfort zone.

Over the years, I’ve learned that success is not about avoiding challenges — it’s about learning how to navigate them with consistency, integrity, faith, and a willingness to keep moving forward. Some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned came through difficult seasons, not easy ones.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Ryan Mason State Farm?
My agency is built around the idea that insurance should be personal, relational, and solutions-focused — not transactional. We help individuals, families, and business owners protect the things they’ve worked hard to build while also helping them prepare for the future with confidence.

While we offer a full range of insurance and financial service products through State Farm, we especially enjoy working with families, professionals, and business owners who want a trusted advisor and long-term relationship rather than simply shopping for the lowest price. We believe there is tremendous value in having someone local who knows you, understands your goals, and is there when life changes or challenges arise.

One thing that sets our agency apart is our focus on education and service. We spend a great deal of time helping customers truly understand their coverage, identify gaps, and make informed decisions. In many cases, people don’t realize what they have — or don’t have — until a major life event or claim occurs. We want our customers to feel informed, prepared, and cared for before those moments happen.

I’m also incredibly proud of the culture we’ve built within our team. We strive to create an environment centered around integrity, professionalism, accountability, and genuine care for people. We work hard, but we also want clients to feel welcomed, respected, and valued every time they interact with our office. I often tell our team that we are not just in the insurance business — we are in the people business.

Brand-wise, we were voted Best Insurance Agency in Ellis County for the last 3 years. I’m most proud that our reputation has been built primarily through relationships, word-of-mouth referrals, and community involvement. We are deeply invested in the communities we serve and believe that being a local business owner means contributing beyond the walls of the office. Whether that’s supporting schools, community organizations, local events, or simply being available when people need help, we want to be known as a business that genuinely cares.

At the end of the day, I want people to know that our agency is committed to doing business the right way: treating people fairly, operating with integrity, communicating honestly, and providing exceptional service. Those values are timeless, and they continue to guide everything we do.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
One thing I would share with readers is that success, whether in business or life, is rarely built alone. I’ve been blessed with incredible mentors, a supportive family, an outstanding team, and a community that has trusted and supported us over the years. I never want to lose sight of that.

I also believe strongly that business should still be personal. In a world that is becoming increasingly automated and transactional, I think people still value trust, relationships, and knowing someone genuinely cares. That philosophy shapes how we serve our customers, lead our team, and engage in the community.

I’m also passionate about investing in the next generation. Whether through mentoring young people, creating internship opportunities, or helping team members grow professionally and personally, I believe leadership is about creating opportunities for others to succeed.

Most importantly, I hope people see our agency and our brand as something built on integrity, consistency, and service. Long after titles, awards, or accomplishments fade, your reputation and the way you treat people are what truly matter.
