Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Mitchell-Davis.
Tamara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey to becoming an author coach, publisher, and entrepreneur began when I finally published my first book after struggling for several years to write it. For most of my career, I worked in education and workforce development assisting adult learners with recognizing their potential and achieving goals they once thought were out of reach. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I was also preparing for the work I do today assisting writers in owning their story, discovering their voice, elevating their message, and stepping into greater visibility and impact.
In 2017, I published my first book, #GoalGetter: Strategies for Overcoming Life’s Challenges. That experience changed everything. I discovered that writing a book wasn’t simply about sharing information; it was about transformation. I saw firsthand how telling my story opened doors, built credibility, and created opportunities I never imagined.
As more people began reaching out for guidance, I launched TM Davis Enterprise, LLC to assist aspiring and published authors in navigating the writing and publishing process. What started as coaching a few individuals evolved into a thriving business that has assisted more than 140 women in becoming published and bestselling authors while building platforms, increasing visibility, and expanding their influence.
Along the way, I noticed something important. Many authors believed publishing the book was the destination, only to find themselves wondering, “Now what?” That’s when my mission expanded. Today, we assist clients in doing more than writing and publishing a book. We assist them in leveraging their message to build visibility, create additional streams of income, position themselves as thought leaders in their industries, and build businesses rooted in their expertise and experiences.
That vision led to the creation of our annual Pen to Profit Conference and Awards, where authors, entrepreneurs, and aspiring thought leaders come together to learn, connect, celebrate their accomplishments, and discover new possibilities for growth. One of the most rewarding parts of my work has been watching relationships, collaborations, business partnerships, and lifelong friendships develop through the communities and experiences we create.
I am still a wife, mother, educator, and lifelong learner. I understand what it feels like to pursue a dream while balancing a demanding career, family responsibilities, and the challenges of everyday life. That is why this work is so personal to me. I believe every woman has a story and a message that deserve to be shared, and a vision that deserves to be pursued.
Looking back, I never imagined that one book would lead to bestselling author status, speaking opportunities, business growth, an annual conference, lifelong friendships, and a community of incredible women changing lives through their stories. Today, my greatest joy is guiding others to realize that their story is not only worth telling, but it may be the very thing that changes someone else’s life while transforming their own.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and honestly, I wouldn’t want people to believe it was.
One of my earliest struggles was writing my own book. It took me years to move from having an idea to actually becoming a published author. Like many of the women I work with today, I battled self-doubt, questioned whether my story mattered, and struggled to find the time while balancing a demanding career, family responsibilities, and everything else life required of me.
As my business grew, I encountered a different set of challenges. Entrepreneurship requires a level of resilience that many people don’t see. There have been seasons of uncertainty, investments that didn’t produce the results I expected, opportunities that didn’t work out, and moments when I questioned whether I was on the right path. Building a business while working full-time in higher education has required discipline, sacrifice, and a willingness to keep moving forward even when progress felt slower than I wanted.
One of the most significant challenges came when I experienced a layoff after more than a decade in a role I had dedicated myself to. It was a difficult season that forced me to reevaluate, pivot, and trust myself in new ways. Looking back, what felt like a setback became an opportunity for growth. It reminded me that our identity is not tied to a title, and that sometimes the most challenging moments create space for the next chapter of our purpose.
Perhaps the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success is rarely a straight line. There are moments when you feel confident and unstoppable, and there are moments when you wonder if anyone sees the vision you are working so hard to build. The key is continuing to show up anyway.
Today, when I work with aspiring and published authors, I bring those experiences with me. I understand what it feels like to pursue a dream while navigating fear, uncertainty, and competing priorities. That’s why I encourage others to focus on progress rather than perfection. The obstacles may change, but growth often happens on the other side of the very challenges we are tempted to avoid.
As you know, we’re big fans of TM Davis Enterprise LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
TM Davis Enterprise, LLC is a coaching and consulting agency dedicated to assisting aspiring and published authors in transforming their stories, expertise, and experiences into greater visibility, influence, and income. While many people know us for helping women write and publish books, our work extends far beyond the publishing process.
Over the years, we have assisted more than 140 women and men in becoming published, bestselling authors. What began as book coaching evolved into a broader mission of helping them recognize that their story is more than a book; it is a platform, a tool for impact, and often the foundation for new opportunities.
Today, we specialize in guiding authors through every stage of their journey, from clarifying their message and writing their book to building their personal brand, increasing visibility, creating additional income streams, and positioning themselves as thought leaders in their industries. Through our coaching programs, book collaborations, conferences, workshops, and community experiences, we create spaces where women can grow both personally and professionally.
What sets us apart is that we don’t view publishing as the finish line. Many people focus solely on helping someone get a book published. We focus on what comes next. We assist our clients in leveraging their message to create opportunities such as digital products, workshops, coaching programs, business growth, and greater community impact.
Another thing that makes our work unique is the emphasis we place on connection and community. Some of the most meaningful outcomes have happened beyond the pages of a book. We have watched authors form lifelong friendships, find business partners, collaborate on new ventures, gain clients, launch podcasts, receive awards, and discover opportunities they never anticipated simply because they chose to share their story and become part of a supportive community.
What I am most proud of is not the number of books published or bestseller achievements, although those milestones are certainly worth celebrating. I am most proud of the transformations. Watching women move from uncertainty to confidence, from hiding to visibility, and from having an idea to creating a business, generating revenue, and building a legacy is incredibly rewarding.
If there is one thing I want readers to know, it is this: your story has value. Whether you are an aspiring author with a manuscript in your heart or a published author wondering what comes next, your message has the power to create impact and change lives, including your own. Sometimes the first step is writing the book. Sometimes the next step is building beyond it. Either way, you do not have to navigate the journey alone.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I believe we are entering one of the most exciting periods for authors, creators, and thought leaders.
Over the next five to ten years, I see a significant shift away from viewing books as standalone products and toward viewing them as part of a larger ecosystem. More authors will recognize that a book is not simply something to sell; it is a tool for building credibility, establishing authority, creating opportunities, and opening doors to additional streams of income.
We are already seeing this transformation. Authors are becoming speakers, coaches, consultants, educators, podcast hosts, community builders, and digital product creators. They are leveraging their books to create courses, workshops, memberships, events, and other experiences that extend the impact of their message far beyond the pages of a book.
Artificial intelligence will also continue to reshape the publishing and entrepreneurial landscape. AI is making it easier to brainstorm ideas, streamline workflows, create content, conduct research, and bring products to market more efficiently. I believe authors and entrepreneurs who learn how to use these tools strategically will have a significant advantage.
At the same time, I do not believe AI will replace authentic storytelling. Technology can assist with content creation, but it cannot replace one’s purpose, lived experiences, personal lessons, unique perspectives, or the emotional connection that comes from sharing a genuine story. In fact, as AI-generated content becomes more common, authenticity may become even more valuable. People will continue to seek out voices they trust and stories they can relate to.
Another shift I anticipate is the continued growth of community-driven learning and collaboration. People are seeking connection, accountability, and shared experiences. They want more than information; they want transformation. Authors who create communities around their message and foster meaningful relationships with their audience will be especially well-positioned for long-term success.
Perhaps the biggest opportunity I see is for women who have spent years building careers, gaining expertise, and accumulating life experiences. Many of them are sitting on stories, lessons, and knowledge that could create tremendous impact. The barriers to publishing, building a platform, and reaching an audience are lower than ever before, creating opportunities for more women to share their voices and establish themselves as leaders in their fields.
The authors who will thrive in the future are those who embrace innovation without losing their authenticity. Publishing is not the destination; its an expansion for opportunity. The book may introduce people to your message, but your ability to connect, serve, and create value for others will determine the lasting impact of your work.
