Hidden Gems: Meet Trent Garrison of Hole in the Wall Drywall Repair of South Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trent Garrison.

Hi Trent, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Susan and I have been in Midlothian for 13 years, and now with our 2-year-old granddaughter (and a grandson on the way), our roots feel even deeper—making it unlikely we’ll leave any time soon. We have 3 children, Cole (28) and wife Abbie (30), Heather (25) and Brooke (20). Additionally, we have Ellie (2) and are expecting her little brother in June of 2026. Cole and family, as well as Heather live within 15 minutes of our home, and we enjoy getting together for family time on the weekends. Brooke is currently enrolled at Texas State University.

Susan and I have been married for 30 years, and most of that time she has been a homemaker (fantastic one, at that!). She worked for 6 years as a lead packer and organizer for a local company while the girls were in school. Susan has a bachelor’s degree in English from The University of North Georgia, and is originally from the Atlanta, Georgia area. She was a competitive swimmer from elementary school through high school and worked as a swim coach and lifeguard during school.

I am a native Texan (5th generation) from the South Austin/San Marcos area. I hold a bachelor’s degree in business management from The University of North Georgia and was a commissioned officer in the US ARMY. Following my deployment to Saudi Arabia, Susan and I left the ARMY, and I joined BellSouth in Atlanta, Georgia. After 6 years there, I joined The Home Depot and we relocated to Dallas, Texas. During my 14 years with The Home Depot, my division was purchased by private equity and rebranded as HD Supply where I progressed from Senior Sales Manager to General Manager, and Regional VP. During this time, we relocated back to Atlanta, Georgia and then back to Dallas, Texas where we now reside. As I stated previously, we’ve finally put down roots.

Over the last 9 years, I’ve worked as a Director for American Woodmark, with full P&L responsibilities for the Texas region, the General Manager for a custom cabinet and countertop startup, and the General Manager for a major national lumber distributor in North Texas.

During this final role, I concluded that I needed something different from what the corporate world was offering, and having reached burn-out, I resigned. After a few weeks of re-centering spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically, I began searching for alternatives. After meeting several different franchises, and through much prayer together with Susan, we felt led to embark on a new adventure. The more we prayed, the stronger we felt this was the direction we were to go and the stronger our opinions of Hole in the Wall became. In December of 2025, we launched the 15th franchise of Hole in the Wall (headquartered in Orlando, Florida) and began our business ownership journey.

As a family-owned and locally operated drywall repair company, we take pride in serving the South Dallas area with a proven repair process, a people-first culture, and honest, dependable service. Hole in the Wall Drywall Repair of South Dallas specializes in small drywall repairs, patching holes, ceiling repair, and texture matching—helping restore homes and businesses quickly and efficiently with integrity and care.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have certainly been struggles with starting up, but nothing that every new startup hasn’t faced. There is a lot of cash outflow when getting started, but we’ve partnered with an excellent Marketing and Branding firm that is helping us manage our online and social media presence. We realize that we serve a niche market, between large drywall installation companies and handymen, but the need and demand for our service is high. The biggest challenge has been maintaining financial fortitude while making our presence (and our solution) known to all of the homeowners and trade partners in the areas we serve. We are seeing the business pick up by becoming certified contractors on various home improvement sites/apps, as well as organic opportunities through online searching and referrals. After a few months in business, we’re seeing the financials begin to make a positive swing.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hole in the Wall specializes in small hole drywall repair, with texture matching and painting the areas we repair. While some homeowners prefer spot painting, we strongly recommend against it. Our goal is to make the repair look like it never happened. To make the repair really disappear, we do expert color-matching and paint the entire wall or ceiling where the repair has been done.

We also do larger jobs, like flood cut repairs, water damage cutout and replacement, and whole home touch ups. We work closely with trade partners such as realtors, property management companies, electricians, plumbers, HVAC companies, restoration companies, and pest control companies. Virtually anyone who has a need to open up a wall or ceiling to do a repair is a partner we would love to align with.

Our work standards follow the 3 C’s (Cover, Complete, Clean), ensuring that we cover and protect everything in the home, perform excellent repair work, texture match and paint, then we clean everything before we leave. Many customers tell us that our work area is cleaner when we leave than it was before we arrived. Our technicians are all background checked and drug screened, so many customers provide access to their homes without their presence, trusting us to have the integrity we are so passionate about. Lastly, we warranty our work for 1year.

We are passionate about providing professional quality work, developing trust with our customers, and earning their reviews and their personal referrals. We strive to be affordable, communicate clearly and frequently, and schedule a customer’s repair quickly.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The Bible is the best life-guide and daily living manual that has ever been written, and I spend a good bit of time reading and studying it.

Additionally, “Nobody Cares… Until You Do” is one of the most impactful books I have read. Co-authors Robert Hunt and Salem Thyne are personal friends and unapologetically map out the path to personal responsibility and how to take control of your life and your business. I 100% recommend it.
