Inspiring Conversations with Bonnie Fleming of Fleming and Associates LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Fleming.

Bonnie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started in a public accounting firm out of college, worked my way to the Technical Accounting Manager and Consolidations Manager at a $6b company. I wanted to make a difference with small businesses. So I started on Upwork doing bookkeeping on the side to put my son through college and build my firm. I made enough money that I could quit my job and hire an employee. My goal was to start a CPA firm that was flexible for women/moms to be able to work full time and juggle family commitments. I am now a women led and women run business of 12 women.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, there are a lot of pivots I have had to make. I pivot daily. I try something new daily and it either works or doesnt work. I’ve had some amazing employees and some not so amazing employees. Its crazy how many people want a remote job but dont want to work. I’ve also had some amazing clients and some clients that treated me like dirt. Im learning to get rid of those clients as soon as I see the signs vs giving them all the benefit of the doubt.
I have had one person try to tear down my company and going through that was rough but I came out stronger as a result of it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Fleming and Associates LLC?
Fleming & Associates is a CPA firm that provides bookkeeping and CFO services to small businesses. We specialize in Law firms and other professional services. What sets us apart from other firms is that we are innovative and always staying up to date on the latest and greatest Accounting enhancements so we can be more efficient for our clients. Our goal is to focus more on advisory as AI is constantly improving on ways to take over the bookkeeping side. One thing that I tell all prospective clients is that there is a difference between Bookkeeping and CFO services. Bookkeeping is recording past transaction, CFO services is making decisions about the future. We use the bookkeeping/past to set our goals for the future through strategic financial planning.

What matters most to you?
Creating a firm that helps small businesses who would not otherwise get attention.
