Today we’d like to introduce you to Dean McCurry.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dean McCurry has been a full-time charitable auctioneer for 15 years. His journey began when he was asked to step in as a substitute Bingo caller for his kids’ school. Impressed by his skills, he was later asked to be the auctioneer for a gala event and the rest is history. After retiring from Western Digital in 2009, Dean made auctioneering his full-time passion.

With over 500 charity events under his belt, Dean has raised over $40 million for various organizations supporting veterans, homeless individuals, senior citizens, schools, churches, animals, victims of crimes, abuse, disaster, special needs, and more. His enthusiasm and humor make him stand out in North Texas charity circles, where he knows how to energize a room and bring smiles to faces.

Dean is happily married to his wife, Gail, for 44 years and together they have three children and eight grandchildren. When asked why he focuses on charity auctions, Dean emphasizes the personal involvement and positive impact he sees in the community. He finds joy in bringing smiles to the faces of those in need, reinforcing his dedication to charitable work.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been an entirely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges we face is earning the trust of charitable organizations, especially during their most important fundraising events of the year. These aren’t just events or transactions for them — they’re lifelines that directly support people in need. Proving that we truly stand with them, that we understand the weight of what they’re doing, and that we’re committed for the long haul is often the hardest part. But once that trust is earned and we begin partnering together, it becomes something much deeper. They see we’re reliable, consistent, and genuinely invested, and those relationships turn into strong, long-term collaborations that allow us to make a real difference together.
