Today we’d like to introduce you to Dezaire Bishop
Hi Dezaire, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After having my son at the start of the COVID, I realized how unpredictable life can be when you have a kid, especially during such a crazy time. I felt like my job didn’t really care about what was going on at home, they just wanted me to show up. With a newborn at home, that was tough, so I decided I wanted more control over my time. That’s when I chose to go to Esthetician school in March 2021, taking the 900 hour advanced esthetics program at Bellus Academy in Poway, California, and graduating later that year in November.
A week after I graduated, my husband got out of the military, and we moved to Fort Worth. I worked at two different esthetic businesses here for a short period of time, before realizing they weren’t the right fit and that I wanted to go solo.
Starting over in a new city, knowing no one, I really had to build my business from scratch. I didn’t have a clear plan—I just winged it. I saved up from my paychecks, slowly bought equipment, and trusted myself and my skills. Now, almost 3 years later, I have no regrets. There are definitely a few things I wish I’d done differently, but every experience has brought me to where I am today, and I’m so grateful for the journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. There’s so much behind-the-scenes work in running a business that you don’t really understand unless you’re taught, and that’s something they don’t cover in school—things like sales, taxes, quarterly filings, bookkeeping, budgeting, etc. When I first started, I didn’t consider any of that, so for a whole year, I found myself playing catch-up until I finally brought someone on to help. That was definitely one of my biggest challenges—getting all the behind-the-scenes aspects of the business in order.
As for working with clients, my biggest hurdle was building a clientele in a city where I didn’t know anyone. I had to earn their trust WITHOUT client photos, reviews, or a solid reputation to show for myself.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is knowing that I was able to start and grow a business that not only brings in income but is something I truly enjoy. My work is fulfilling. Waking up everyday to go to a job I love is something I never thought possible, but here I am, living that reality.
Beyond my business, my family brings me the most joy. Since 2020, everything I’ve done has been for my son. Without him, I may have never ventured into esthetics and been able to give him a lot of the things I’m able to today.. I’m also incredibly grateful to my husband, who has always supported me through everything, even when my goals seemed out of reach, he’s always there cheering me on.
Those are the two things that bring me the most happiness.
