Inspiring Conversations with Jon Davis of Jon Davis Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Davis.

Hi Jon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Disappointed but not discouraged, I had just found out I didn’t make the freshman basketball team. Immediately, I decided to dedicate myself to improving in every way possible so I’d make the team next year. That night, I asked my mom to get me a gym membership, and she did after a little pestering.

Make no mistake, though. This is not the tale of Michael Jordan. For me, this process led to a new love: weightlifting and fitness. I was fascinated with the changes working out had on my body. Although I didn’t turn into the second coming of Michael Jordan despite sharing a similar origin story, I was able to find a lifelong passion from what was formerly a failure.

Upon entering college, I stumbled across sites like bodybuilding.com and Lyle McDonald’s bodyrecomposition.com. Wanting to learn as much as I could, I spent a significant portion of my time reading articles and watching videos to augment my base of “broscience” knowledge gained from years of being in the gym. It was also at this time that I began a decade-long period of making little to no progress in the gym as I went through numerous binge and purge cycles. It goes to show having the knowledge and applying it isn’t always easy, and I understand that.

After graduating from college, I went to work in investment banking. First at a midsize firm in St. Louis and then at Goldman Sachs in New York. If you know what investment banking is, you know the hours are crazy. I regularly worked 80 to 120-hour weeks at my first job with a slightly less demanding schedule at my second. Obviously, this is not a work-life balance conducive to staying fit. Despite dragging like a slug, I still made it a point to go to the gym because it was a priority for me and because I’ve seen firsthand what being out of shape can do to someone.

Since leaving investment banking, I’ve worked in private equity and corporate finance, along with a four-year stint in which I ran a sneaker reselling organization that grossed over $10 million in sales. During this period of my life, my focus was more on my career than on my fitness goals.

It was also during the tail end of this period that I entered one of the most difficult phases of my life after a failed relationship led me into depression. Needing an escape, I once again began focusing on the gym, tracking my calories, and logging my lifts. In the process, I rediscovered my passion for fitness and never looked back.

Today, I help people reach their fitness goals and help businesses achieve their strategic goals. I’m also in the best shape of my life, physically and mentally. I now live in Dallas, TX, where I spend most of my time being a workaholic, working out, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying what life has to offer.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Along the way, I’ve encountered obstacles just like everyone else has. I have always had a strained relationship with my father. I failed to make the freshman basketball team. I didn’t come from a wealthy family or go to an elite university. I struggled with depression after a separation with the mother of my son. However, I always make the best of what is in front of me. In the grand scheme of things, my problems pale in comparison to those of certain others. For this, I am grateful, and I choose to keep an optimistic perspective and not focus on the challenges once I have overcome them because doing otherwise would be wasteful.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an online fitness coach specializing in helping men transform their physiques. As a former investment banking, private equity, and corporate finance professional, I’ve learned how to work diligently and apply high standards to the services I provide. Painstaking attention to detail sets me apart from others in my field. I am most proud of the consistent quality and individualized attention I deliver in my coaching services.

What’s next?
My plans for the future include continuing to build out my presence across social media and further scaling my online fitness coaching business by adding clients. I am most looking forward to helping more people realize that their fitness goals are well within their grasp.
