Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Pather.
Hi josh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my start in the trenches as a service business owner, not as a software guy. I built a photo booth company from the ground up and scaled it to over 800 events a year — booking, running, and following up on every one of them. That meant living the day-to-day reality most local service owners know too well: chasing leads, juggling a dozen disconnected tools, and watching good opportunities slip through the cracks because I couldn’t respond fast enough.
Along the way I founded Photo Booth International, which has grown into a community of more than 5,000 service businesses with 400+ five-star reviews. Running that community put me shoulder-to-shoulder with thousands of other owners — DJs, contractors, event pros, home service operators — and I kept hearing the same frustration over and over. Everyone was paying for five or six different platforms that didn’t talk to each other, drowning in software they barely used, and still losing leads.
That’s the problem I set out to solve with Lead Fuel CRM. I’d already lived it, fixed it for my own business, and helped others in my community do the same. Lead Fuel pulls everything a local service business needs — leads, follow-up, automation, websites, reviews — into one simple system they’ll actually use. The whole philosophy is built on something I learned the hard way: the simpler the system, the more likely you are to actually run your business with it instead of fighting it.
Today I’m focused on growing Lead Fuel, alongside the other communities and platforms I run like Wedding Connect and Rockwallconnect.com
But the mission is the same one it’s always been — help local service owners stop losing leads and start growing, without the overwhelm.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? Not even close. Like most people who build something from nothing, the lessons came the hard way.
In the early days running my photo booth business, the biggest struggle wasn’t getting work — it was keeping up with it. I was doing everything manually: answering inquiries, following up, sending contracts, chasing invoices, managing the calendar. Leads slipped through the cracks constantly, not because they weren’t good, but because I couldn’t respond fast enough. I learned firsthand that in this business, the person who responds first usually wins. Every slow reply was money walking out the door.
When I started Photo Booth International and got around thousands of other service owners, I realized I wasn’t the only one. Everyone was stitching together five or six different tools that didn’t talk to each other, paying hundreds a month, and still losing leads. The whole industry was overwhelmed by software instead of helped by it.
Building Lead Fuel came with its own set of challenges. The hardest one was learning that more features don’t equal more value. Early on, the instinct is to give people everything. But I watched clients get overwhelmed and stop using the system entirely — which is the worst outcome there is. That forced a real shift in how I think about the product: simpler onboarding, cleaner workflows, more done-for-you, and cutting anything that gets in the way of results. The simpler the system, the more likely someone actually uses it to grow.
The other ongoing challenge is the one every founder knows — wearing too many hats and learning when to build systems and bring on the right people instead of doing it all yourself. That’s the stage I’m focused on now: building something that scales without me being the bottleneck.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lead Fuel CRM?
At our core, we’re about one thing: helping local service businesses in Rockwall and beyond actually grow. Lead Fuel and Rockwall Connect are working together to do exactly that — Lead Fuel brings the tools and systems that help local businesses generate leads, manage customers, and grow revenue, while Rockwall Connect roots it all in the community we’re proud to be part of. Together, it’s more than a customer base — it’s a network of local businesses growing alongside each other.
What sets us apart is simple, and honestly a little old-fashioned: we pick up the phone. In an industry full of faceless software companies and endless support tickets, we answer when our clients call. Real people, real conversations, real help. Local service owners are busy running their businesses — the last thing they need is to fight with a chatbot or wait three days for an email reply. When they reach out, we’re there. That level of hands-on, personal customer service is what we’re most proud of brand-wise.
We’re also proud of the company we keep. Through Lead Fuel and Rockwall Connect, we partner with and support outstanding local businesses right here in the community, including Home Bank, W3 Electric, Harlow Payments, Lone Star Print House, and Arctic Spas of Rockwall. These are the kinds of relationships that make a local economy strong — businesses supporting businesses, sending each other referrals, and growing together instead of going it alone.
What we do comes down to giving local service businesses the tools and support to generate more leads, take care of their customers, and grow revenue — without the overwhelm of complicated software or the cold, impersonal treatment you get from the big platforms. We keep it simple, we keep it local, and we keep it personal.
If there’s one thing we want readers to know, it’s this: when you work with us, you’re not a ticket number. You’re a neighbor. And we treat your business like we’d treat our own.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
If I had to point to one thing, it’s community. Business isn’t really about software or transactions — it’s about relationships, and I’ve never felt more embraced by a community than I have here in the Rockwall area.
When you genuinely invest in the people and businesses around you, it comes back tenfold. The relationships I’ve built here have opened doors, created partnerships, and sent more referrals my way than any ad ever could. People here support each other. They want to see their neighbors win. And being part of that has been the single biggest driver of our success.
That’s also why we run our business the way we do — picking up the phone, treating clients like neighbors instead of ticket numbers, and partnering with great local businesses instead of competing in a vacuum. The community gave that to me, and we try to give it right back.
At the end of the day, you can have the best tools in the world, but without people who believe in you and stand behind you, none of it matters. Community is everything, and Rockwall has proven that to me over and over.
