Inspiring Conversations with Kadeeja Best of Amo Domus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadeeja Best.

Hi Kadeeja, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
At the start of the pandemic, like many, I found myself out of work. I am a classically trained cellist and educator, and the arts took a big hit over the last two years. However, I had been collecting vintage furniture since I was 14 years old and was often asked by friends where I found my pieces. I hadn’t really thought about making a business out of it until my friend encouraged me to try it out! At that point, I had nothing to lose, so I invested $75 into a few pieces of inventory, crafted my brand identity, and launched my shop via Instagram in Dec. 2020! After nearly selling out in my first week, I knew I had something and put my all into it from that point on. Do date, we have built a shop-able website, participated in pop-ups, and even had some of our pieces used in set design for an HBO series!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Curating a vintage shop comes with a lot of challenges! One, in particular, is the never-ending sourcing you have to do to maintain inventory. You also have to become a bit of a master refinisher as so many items come batter and used from age and use! There is definitely a learning curve and a lot of YouTube University haha

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Amo Domus?
Amo Domus is a Black-owned, curated, high-end Vintage Art and Furniture online shop. We are known for having a beautiful collection of pieces that truly tell a story. We feel our visuals truly set us apart from others. We have an emphasis on sustainability and re-use a lot of our packaging supplies and of course, shipping vintage means you are shopping in a sustainable way while curating a unique space that truly reflects who you are.

Any big plans?
At the moment, we are focusing on sourcing rarer, more collectible pieces. Something you can own that is a true show-stopper!
