Inspiring Conversations with Mckynsi Moore of Twisted Double M

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mckynsi Moore.

Hi Mckynsi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I actually started out as a Real Estate Agent in Dallas, growing tired of the big city and wanting to save money I put in my notice of leave and moved back home to Waxahachie, TX in April of 2020. As Covid hit, the hiring process for any job was near impossible. I took a mini Hiatus and enjoyed a couple of months working as a Wrangler for the Fort Worth Stockyards for a $100 a day rate. As riding horses took a toll on my body – I had to take several weeks off to recover from a couple of equine accidents. During that time, I really asked myself what I wanted to do and what would make me proud of my career.

In the meantime, a friend hired me on to help with Lazy J Ranchwear marketing. As I then had no income, I was hurting for a job. MC taught me everything about marketing. From getting product into pricing, to uploading, to fixing a website, covering social media and putting on shoots. I was hooked. It was like I found my missing piece. I fell in LOVE with retail and started dreaming of being my own boss one day.

Flashback to a couple of years prior, my uncle passed away who used to work out on the Muleshoe Ranch in TX. I wanted to honor him and his ranching legacy. So I created a brand for myself out of his old cattle brand (D arrow D) (The D’s meant Douglas Deaton) to (M arrow M) – Standing for my name Mckynsi Moore. As my time with MC and Lazy J came to a close, a little light bulb went off In my head. I wanted to start my own western store. All I needed was someone to believe in me. My boyfriend helped me come up with the store name – to honor Douglas and later, we added in Twisted because of my sense of fashion. MC helped guide me where I needed to be and ultimately gave me the push I needed to get running on my own. With lots of faith in God and help from my parents, we were off to the races!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been everything but a smooth ride, though I wouldn’t change it If I could. Much more goes into retail than I thought, and being a one-woman show is not a small feat. I have so much more respect for business owners now! I take pride in my struggles and overcoming them, and looking back on my growth is what keeps me pushing forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Twisted Double M is a small western storefront in Waxahachie, TX, specializing in boutique wear, men’s, children’s, custom footwear, Brazilian cowhides and authentic turquoise. You won’t find another store like us, it’s not just the unique finds and trend-setting home decor & clothes. It’s the atmosphere. When you shop online or in-store, you get a sense of grit and hard work mixed with toughness and lots of glam. As I tell many, we aren’t for the faint at heart. Our products bring a sense of confidence to our buyers. All of our Turquoise and sterling silver jewelry is handmade from Native Americans, as well as all of the cowboy hats are made out in Santa Fe, custom ordered for you to enjoy. We take pride in our “made by hand” vendors – I wanted to focus on the small makers from the beginning to be able to sell products that carry a story of hard work with them.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
When I am working in the back, I listen to 90’s country and Christian radio for motivation. As for the podcast, one of my favorites to listen to is Tony Robbins – If you’ve heard of him, you know. If you haven’t, you may be missing out on some amazing knowledge and wisdom.
