Inspiring Conversations with Rubi Soto of The Bilingual Lab LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rubi Soto.

Hi Rubi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been passionate about teaching language and literacy as a bilingual educator. To further expand my expertise, I earned a Master’s degree in Education and obtained my Reading Specialist certification. While I enjoyed my role as a Reading Interventionist in the public school system, I had long dreamed of opening a small bilingual microschool that would provide personalized, small-group instruction tailored to each child’s academic needs.

Over time, I found that teaching was becoming increasingly challenging, as educators often have less flexibility to teach in ways that best meet the needs of their students. This realization motivated me to pursue my dream of creating a private educational program where children could receive individualized support in a nurturing environment.

In 2024, I took a leap of faith and began offering Bilingual Kids workshops. As the program grew, I became more consistent in providing small-group Spanish language and literacy instruction within the community. I quickly discovered that many parents were seeking alternatives to traditional educational settings—options that offer higher-quality learning experiences and a more personalized approach.

Families value programs that encourage creativity, reduce unnecessary restrictions, and support children’s social-emotional, cognitive, and academic growth. As we continue to grow, our goal remains the same: to provide the highest-quality educational experience possible while helping children thrive and reach their full potential.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I believe that anyone who starts a business will face obstacles along the way. For me, one of the biggest challenges was learning how to navigate the journey of becoming a business owner. I had to figure out how to grow my business while continuing to develop professionally. It meant becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable and embracing the uncertainty that comes with trying something new.

I am still learning every day, and I am not afraid to ask questions when I encounter unfamiliar situations or topics. I have come to realize that making mistakes is a natural part of the journey. Growth rarely happens without challenges, and each obstacle provides an opportunity to learn and improve.

I have been incredibly fortunate to connect with like-minded individuals who have mentored and supported me along the way. Their guidance has been invaluable as I continue to build and grow my business. My hope is that, in the future, I can pay it forward by mentoring and encouraging others who are taking the leap to start something new, just as I did.

As a Latina entrepreneur, I would especially like to encourage other Latinas to pursue their dreams and believe in their potential. With enough grit, determination, and vision, anything is possible. While the journey may not always be easy, every challenge can become a stepping stone toward success. I hope my story serves as a reminder that taking a leap of faith can lead to incredible opportunities and meaningful growth.

We’ve been impressed with The Bilingual Lab LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
¡Hola!

My name is Rubi Soto, and I am the proud founder of The Bilingual Lab.

I hold a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction, emphasizing Literacy Studies, as well as a Reading Specialist certification. With over 15 years of classroom experience, my passion has always been helping children develop strong language and literacy skills. My goal is to share my expertise with families and empower students to become the best versions of themselves—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our Vision

At The Bilingual Lab, our vision is to create a nurturing environment where young learners develop into confident, capable bilingual individuals through strong literacy foundations and joyful exploration. We envision a community where Spanish immersion is accessible, enriching, and inspiring, equipping children with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly diverse and multilingual world.

About The Bilingual Lab

The Bilingual Lab is a private language and literacy program that combines over 15 years of educational experience with a deep passion for early language development. Rooted in research and guided by purpose, our program integrates sensory play, academic literacy, and immersive Spanish instruction to cultivate confident, curious, and lifelong learners.

We believe that high-quality, explicit instruction is the foundation of successful language acquisition. Children learn best when they are actively engaged—using their hands, minds, and hearts. Our approach combines hands-on, sensory-rich experiences with structured literacy instruction, creating a meaningful and joyful pathway to bilingualism.

Our Philosophy

We are committed to fostering language proficiency through a comprehensive approach that includes academic vocabulary development, phonics, decoding, reading comprehension, and writing skills. For our youngest learners, we provide playful, sensory-based experiences that support fine motor development, cognitive growth, creativity, and early literacy foundations.

What sets The Bilingual Lab apart is our commitment to blending research-based instruction with meaningful, child-centered learning experiences. We strive to create a welcoming environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential as bilingual learners.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I believe that success is best achieved through collaboration. Working alongside like-minded individuals and organizations who share similar values and goals creates opportunities for growth, innovation, and greater impact. I am always open to collaborating with other businesses and programs, and I genuinely enjoy learning from others, exchanging ideas, and gaining new professional perspectives.
