Inspiring Conversations with Shan Evans of Boss Hair by Shan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shan Evans.

Hi Shan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had a passion for doing hair at a very young age. As a child, I would style my doll’s hair. By the time I got to High School, I was making money by braiding my classmate’s hair. After High School graduation I got a full-time job, but it wasn’t fulfilling and I dreaded going to work every day. I knew I needed change, so I decided to enroll into cosmetology school in 2008. In May 2009, I took a leap of faith and decided to resign from my 9-5, and I haven’t looked back since. At that point, I already built up a clientele, so I was off to a good start. I worked in a salon with other women and continued to add new clients. I always dreamed of owning my own salon, so I worked hard every day to accomplish my goals. In 2016, I opened my own salon and I had 5 stylists join me. The salon was open for 3 years, but God had other plans for me. After running my own salon, I decided to move to a salon suite of my own.

I have been a licensed stylist for 13 years and I am still passionate about it. I invest in classes monthly to make sure I continue to educate myself. My clients are my walking billboard and I love putting smiles on their faces. It gives me joy & satisfaction to style them for their special moments. Boss Hair by Shan is not just a name, it’s an experience!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t always been easy. When I was working toward owning my own salon, one of the obstacles I faced was securing the perfect location to service all of my clients in Houston and surrounding areas.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in weaving and natural hairstyles. What sets me apart is that I am able to do both while maintaining the healthiness of my client’s hair. Boss hair is the ultimate one-stop shop because I provide affordable Virgin, Brazilian, & Malaysian bundled hair.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is going to my grandparents’ house on weekends and cooking for my cousins. After our bellies were good and full, I would do all of the girls’ hair. These style would range from flat ironing to braids.
