Inspiring Conversations with Sherine George of Lavender Lane Events LLC + Sky High

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherine George.

Hi Sherine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve worked full-time in marketing and event planning for most of my career, and I love my work. At home, I have my wonderful husband of 14 years, Mr. George, and three adorable children, Ava (9), Emma (8), and Ezra (5).

I enjoy sharing my faith and life on my blog, lavenderlane.blog, but my husband and I’ve always had entrepreneurial goals. We’ve always dreamt of having something of our own. With full-time jobs and three kiddos, the timing never seemed right. During the pandemic, nothing in my life had really slowed down (I was still going into the office), but something clicked. I felt it was time for a change. Two big changes, in fact.

Sky High, The Cabin: In November 2020, we prayed, we researched and we took a leap of faith. We bought a beautiful new cabin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Owning a vacation rental was a dream placed in our hearts many years ago, and seeing that dream come to pass has been downright exhilarating. I created a guest book for our guests and I can’t wait to read what they share with us. Seeing others enjoy and make memories at the cabin is something we readily look forward to.

Lavender Lane Events: I come from a large, close-knit family – they are my pride and joy. Gathering my family in my home to celebrate traditions and milestones has always been very important to me. I love to host and I love the prep-work behind it. Over the years, I started to collect party pieces, thinking maybe one day I would start an event business. I even did annoying things like bring home three dozen children’s chairs, with no idea what I was going to do with them.

So finally, last month I launched Lavender Lane Events. It is a boutique event rental and design business. We have the prettiest luxury picnic setups, a treat wall, backdrops, beautiful white bounce houses, a blush pink bounce house, and a few more exciting things on the way. I’m selective about the projects I take on because I want it to always remain a labor of love.

This season in my life has been about taking risks and stepping out in faith. I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and the support and encouragement I’ve received.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There will always be obstacles and challenges. There’ll be naysayers, lack of support from those you thought would be more supportive, insecurities, and things that’ll happen that are completely out of your control. We had our pipes freeze during the snowstorm of the century and we had to cancel on our guests for the cabin. Since I work full time, I can’t always take on the projects I’d like to take on for Lavender Lane. So there’s always the issue of time. Juggling it all is a balancing act that no one to my knowledge, has perfected. I think it’s about giving yourself grace for the mistakes that you’ll inevitably make and the permission to slow down when you need to.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Lavender Lane, we have a deep passion for celebrating and we believe that every special event deserves to be stunning. We are a boutique design and event service company and celebrating life is what we do best. We offer specially curated pieces that bring together beautiful spaces. Our goal is to create unforgettable, gorgeous moments as you unwind and enjoy your special day.

Sky High Cabin
Our luxury two-bedroom retreat is set on Carter Mountain overlooking the Ouachita National Forest. The cabin has everything, including floor-to-ceiling windows, a full kitchen, luxurious master bath, stone fireplace, as well as a large covered deck and fireplace. In addition, services like a private chef, masseuse, or housekeeping can be added. Not sure what to do in Broken Bow? I wrote about it here: https://www.lavenderlane.blog/post/things-to-do-in-broken-bow-ok.

How do you think about happiness?
My faith and my family are incredibly important to me. I’m a Christian and my father is an Indian Orthodox priest, so faith was crucial in my upbringing and the cornerstone of everything I do. My heart beats for my family. Together the two bring me indescribable joy.
