Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Clark.
Hi Tiffany, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Here’s how Tiffany Clark Interiors came about… Starting your own business is not an easy feat; at least for me, it wasn’t. Starting my own business was a long-drawn-out process, let me tell you why. Interior design has always been a true deep passion of mine, I always knew that I would end up being an interior designer it’s just something that God instilled in me. However, I didn’t believe in myself enough at the time. It was due to my own fears and setbacks. They say that fear is a number one sit back in life, and that statement couldn’t be more true.
Interior design is not something that I just woke up one day and wanted to do. I was literally born with a gift from God. I’ve been into interior design since a very young child as far back as I can remember, was the age 12 to 13. I started out by designing things in my own room, and then it bled out into the rest of my parent’s home, then on to my aunts, uncles, friends, and anyone who would let me design their house, lol. I grew up watching HGTV all the time, my favorite show at the time was Design on a Dime, and Property Brothers who don’t love them right. Fast forward to 2009, I joined the military for nine years. Hooah! During this entire time from 13 to now in the army, I never stop doing interior design. I was still always designing either my home or someone else’s home frequently.
In 2018 is when I decided to not reenlist into the military and pursue interior design as my career. I had been self-educating myself for 15+ years, I wanted to expand my knowledge, so I took a course at “The Interior Design Institute” to receive my diploma in interior design. I was so excited, but even still, I let my fears get in the way even though people would tell me how good I was, and I knew I was good. However, with my corporate job, I was making good money, and we had great benefits. I knew a check was coming, and I knew how much, with me stepping out into my own realm, I would lose all of that, and that was scary!
It was literally one of the scariest and intimidating situations I have ever been in. I knew for a while that this is what I was supposed to do. I would talk to God and myself about it all the time; I could literally feel it in my soul.
What truly changed the game and helped my thought process was reading “Woman Evolve” by Sarah Jakes Roberts. Halfway through the book all those fears that I had started to diminish, by the time I was finished with the book I knew exactly what I needed to do! My life has not been the same since. The things I used to stress over are no more; the fears I used to have, what fears!?
I let my own fears hold me back for years by simply not being obedient. I could name numerous of different fears that crossed my mind, a bunch of “what ifs”. But the only “what if “that truly mattered was, “What if you trust God blindly and stop thinking you’re in control because, girl, your way is clearly not working.”
After I quit my corporate job, my life literally changed overnight. It’s still mind-blowing to me!!! I have made more money than I have at my corporate career in a year vs their yearly pay, I make my own schedule I am my own boss, marriage is good, kids are good, life is good, God is greater! There are no complaints. I had wished I had done this years ago lol, but timing is everything! If anyone is reading this and you’re on the fence about pursuing your dreams, the best advice I can give you is to simply go for it!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The short answer is no lol. Being an entrepreneur is not easy on its own; I’m sure every entrepreneur will agree with that. However, depending on what your business is about will determine the levels of stress. Most of my struggles were in the beginning of starting my business, overthinking, which led to being overwhelmed. I had to learn that the things I had no control over, I had to let go. For instance, when something goes wrong, instead of dwelling in the negativity, the best outcome is to find another solution for the problem. From furniture delays to an item being broken on site, I’ve set my mind up to now expect something to go wrong with every single project because honestly, it’s bound to happen, and when it does, it’s fine, this too shall pass.
