Inspiring Conversations with William Campuzano of Campuzano MMA

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Campuzano.

William Campuzano

Hi William, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
“I got tired of beating scrubs, so I went UFC”…

Fighting out of a very tough childhood I found a peace and release in martial arts. Channeling my aggression in the cage and seeing that I could achieve what I’ve set my mind to has given me, personally, the unwavering belief that anything is possible.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not having an athletic background and going into professional cage fighting as a profession could be considered extremely challenging and it was. But i didn’t let that stop me and I became a World Champion 5 years after taking my first martial arts class.

We’ve been impressed with Campuzano MMA, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My mission in Frisco is to share the benefit of my experiences as a fighter traveling the world, overcoming obstacles, and working with other people to help them achieve their dreams and goals. I want to make as big of an impact as possible and affect as many lives as I can in a positive way. I truly believe that martial arts is a forum where you can learn to be the best version of yourself and apply that achievement to benefit you in all aspects of life.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Campuzano found his way into the world of mixed martial arts while attending college. “I used to fight a lot, like out on the street.

When I was in college I didn’t have an athletic background.

Growing up, I never signed up for sports or did sport-related activities.

While attending College, I took a Tae Kwon Do course where I met Tom Seabourne.

He introduced me to Marcus Lanier who was a professional MMA fighter.

Two weeks after my first class I had my first unsanctioned MMA fight in Dallas.

At the time amateur MMA wasnt’t legal in Texas.

You would go online to Txmma.com and agree to a set time and location.

You would then meet up in room filled up with a bunch of tough guys and sized up who you would want to fight in the next hour.

I remember giving up a 25lbs difference ones.

That’s when I learned the importance of weight classes!

And that’s how I got into MMA.

I won the first six fights of my mixed martial arts career, all by stoppage.
