Antania Jackson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Antania, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The sound of a 6a alarm clock pulsates from my iPhone 14 Plus. Snooze and immediate thanks to God for allowing me to see another day. The first 90 minutes of my day is spent with intention, reflection, and gratitude. This routine has changed over time, however, my understanding of self-care is how I prioritize my mornings, Where I am at the present moment determines what part of myself I should focus on. Sometimes this looks like introspection, other times it could be an extended skin care routine, or writing in my gratitude journal, then there are morning where TikTok has me in a never ending spiral—it can be a great resource at times.
It’s imperative that we don’t lose ourselves in the world outside of the homes within us. This is how you bring care back to mind, body, and spirit. So, reader, I challenge you to start your day with intention, however that looks for you, you’ll eventually flourish the way you’ve always dreamed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Antania and I’m a multi-platform blogger for www.cocoagal.com. My main focuses are on entertainment, lifestyle, beauty, adventure, and fashion. I always say, there’s something here for everyone! I’ve always loved travel (Sagittarius here), and music is a great part of my life, so I like to share those experiences with my readers. My dream has been to work with emerging artists in the development space, so I developed an Artist Media Kit for emerging artists to get exposure by providing press and promoters with all the information they need in one place. I’ve also started a YouTube series with information to help emerging artists as they’re getting started. It’s a unique space, but I’ve enjoyed learning about and helping to shine light on new artists.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I took a trip to Hong Kong in 2019. It was an adventure that really changed how I saw the world. My assumptions of the culture before traveling were quite different once I finally got there. There’s a greater sense of community among the people of Wan Chai. Before visiting, I viewed community as something largely based on shared backgrounds or interests. However, in Wan Chai, I encountered a different kind of community-one built on a shared sense of place and mutual support. I saw neighbors helping each other with daily tasks, local businesses supporting community events, and people from different backgrounds coming together to celebrate their shared identity. This experience challenged my previous notions of community and showed me the importance of place-based connections and the power of collective action. It made me realize that community can be found anywhere, even in the most unexpected places, as long as people are willing to come together and support one another.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Tina Turner is one of my favorite artists. To learn that she passed away not only hurt, but it hurt more not being able to witness her craft in person. That’s why I urge concertgoers to make sure they see their favorite artist while they’re still living.
I every opportunity to see the artists I admire most: underground and mainstream.
