The first 90 minutes of my day start with spiritual gratitude and physical gratitude. I start my day with thanks to God and prayer. I then go right into my workout and phyical routine to keep my body phyically fit, stronger, and healthy,

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The women in my family most shaped how I see myself. I was blessed to be raised by phenomenal women who didn’t make excuses and achieved in life in spite of their circumstances. My mother has always been a hard worker and she is great with money. My oldest maternal aunt was one of the strongest women I have ever met. We always had a special bond. She always encouraged me. My grandmother, Mama Doris, was extraordinary. She owned two homes in her lifetime, both paid in full. When she built her second home, which she drew the plans herself, she gave us her first home. Again, paid in full. My paternal grandmother owned a home in California. All of my aunts were like second mothers. They taught me a lot and they all believed in me, encouraged my academic growth, and supported me in life and college. My cousins are the same way, male and female. In short, my family, both blood and my chosen family, have had a great influence on me.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
When my nephew’s mom was preparing to graduate with her bachelor’s degree, I was overjoyed for her. We were planning for her ceremony and the celebrations that would follow, and in the middle of all the excitement, I casually asked, “What made you go back to college?” I will never forget her response. She looked at me and said, “You. You told me I could go back to college and get my degree while I had the support with my kids.”
In that moment, my eyes filled with tears. It remains one of the greatest honors of my life. To know that my encouragement influenced her to change not only her life, but the trajectory for her kids and the generations to come, filled me with joy.
True legacy is not just what you leave a person, but it is about what you instill in them.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Faith. Family. Friends.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am walking in my calling in my church, family, community, and career. I am multi-dimensional and love what God has called me to do. I love what I do and people tell me all the time that it shows. I am grateful.
