Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Marcos Morales of Dallas

Marcos Morales shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Marcos, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
A few things come to mind, more recently last month when my band played our hometown, Arlington, TX. We played a show celebrating David’s birthday (our drummer), alongside his other bands. I had a feeling it would be a big performance for us, but to feel the outpouring of love and support from our friends, family, and peers was beyond my expectation.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Marcos Morales and I’m a songwriter, music instructor, and audio engineer based in Dallas, TX. I started the band Cloudvase in early 2023 in the wake of quitting my job after feeling drained musically and creatively. I had ideas for songs briefly before the pandemic but I ultimately wanted to create something that was a reflection of myself and how I view the world post-pandemic. I had previously helped with other projects, but wanted to build and develop my own identity as an artist. I was fortunate to find like-minded bandmates to get the songs off the ground and into the world. We were able to get our music together and released back in October. We are currently in the process of writing our debut album and plan to be finished by late summer and possibly release later this year.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Trust and consistency tend to be what breaks bonds between people, more so the lack of. We trust that the other person wants to help you grow and evolve as a human and be consistent & loyal to stick around when times become difficult. There’s always going to be people around when life is in order but a true friend is someone who is there to help you when you are putting the pieces back together.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Other people’s opinions of me – I see it now with younger people as they’re worried about being perceived or considered “cringe”. I haven’t had those thoughts recently, but I it did hold me back from starting my journey as an artist some years ago.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The “grind’ is essential to breaking through as an artist, we’ve been conditioned to put our well being aside in order to “make it’. It’s important to be prepared for the right opportunity but also knowing your threshold to avoid being burnt out. Which is easier said than done as it can sneak up on you or you aren’t in a position to accept a certain opportunity, but the reality comes down to the industry not having much concern for artists’ mental health. I am very fortunate to have a career outside of the band that allows me to grow at a healthy pace as it becomes a stable income revenue.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m fully present and my headspace is clear. So much of my career has been by appointment; while I’ve had the opportunity to do incredible things as an independent contractor, many of those memories remain vague as my mind was already preparing for the next event or upcoming project. However, when I find myself in those moments of stillness and reflection, I am able to find that peace.
