Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with RJay Green of Carrollton, Tx

We’re looking forward to introducing you to RJay Green. Check out our conversation below.

RJay, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What battle are you avoiding?
I’m avoiding the stillness that forces me to confront what I can’t control. I’m avoiding sitting long enough to feel the fear, the uncertainty, and the unanswered questions. Avoidance shows up when I overwork, overthink, or distract myself, telling myself I’m being productive, when really I’m trying not to trust.

Faith, on the other hand, doesn’t mean I have all the answers. It means I’m willing to stop running and believe that God is already moving, even when I don’t see evidence yet. Avoidance keeps me tense, trying to manage outcomes. Faith invites me into peace. Peace that says my responsibility is obedience, not the result.

I’m learning that avoidance is loud and urgent, while faith is quiet and steady. Avoidance says “Do more so you don’t feel.” Faith says “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)

So what I’m really avoiding isn’t the problem, it’s the surrender. And the moment I stop avoiding surrender is the moment peace replaces anxiety, because God never asked me to carry what He already promised to handle.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
In my last interview, I introduced myself as RJay Green, the artist and community leader. Today, I’m proud to introduce myself as an entrepreneur and the CEO of Becoming R&G Coffee Company.

Becoming R&G stands for Becoming Rooted & Grounded, and our slogan,“we keep you grounded while you grow” captures the heart of everything we do. The brand is inspired by Ephesians 3:17, “So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith being rooted and grounded in love.” Coffee is the vessel, but the mission is deeper: creating intentional spaces where faith, creativity, and community intersect, allowing people to slow down, connect, and grow from the inside out.

My journey into entrepreneurship was born out of transition. After being let go from my job, I stepped fully into what God had already been preparing me for. What began as a step of faith has grown into a purpose-driven company rooted in storytelling, collaboration, and legacy. Becoming R&G is evolving toward a brick-and-mortar café experience designed to feel like home, welcoming, reflective, and transformative.

At my core, I’m still a storyteller. Whether through music, conversation, or a cup of coffee. Right now, I’m focused on building Becoming R&G Coffee Company into a sustainable, community-centered business that honors faith, purpose, and the beauty of becoming, one step at a time.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that lived in constant grind mode. The version that believed rest was weakness, that my value came from productivity, and that I had to prove myself to everyone in every room. The part of me that said yes to everything because I was afraid of missing opportunities, being overlooked, or disappointing people.
That version served a purpose. It built resilience, discipline, and vision. It carried me through uncertainty, layoffs, transitions, and seasons where I had to just survive. But it’s not the version that’s meant to lead my future.
What I’m releasing now is the identity rooted in survival and scarcity.
I’m stepping into alignment, stewardship, and sustainability building from purpose, not pressure. From clarity, not chaos. From faith, not fear.

I’m no longer becoming out of desperation. I’m becoming out of calling!

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of outgrowing people.

Not failing. Not starting over. Not even instability.
The fear that held me back the most was becoming someone unfamiliar to the people who loved me, evolving beyond the version of me they were comfortable with. For a long time, I minimized myself so I wouldn’t disrupt rooms, relationships, or expectations. I delayed decisions, softened my vision, and stayed in places that were too small because I didn’t want my growth to feel like abandonment to others.

What I’ve learned is this: growth isn’t betrayal, it’s obedience to purpose.
You don’t lose people because you change; you lose alignment.
Now I move with peace instead of permission.
With purpose instead of approval.
With faith instead of fear.
And that changed everything

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is real, but it’s not the full story.

What people see is my leadership, my faith, my creativity, my vision, my discipline, my community work, my optimism, my grind, my brand, all of that is authentic.
But the private version of me carries the weight.
The doubts.
The exhaustion.
The unanswered prayers.
The quiet fear.
The nights of uncertainty.
The moments of wanting to quit but choosing obedience anyway.
The public version is the fruit.
The private version is the root.
Both are me.
One is visible. One is sacred.
I don’t perform strength, I live in purpose.
I don’t curate perfection ,I protect process.
So yes, I’m real in public.
But the realest version of me is the one that keeps going when nobody’s watching.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
It’s in the quiet moments where nothing is being performed: early mornings before the world starts pulling with a cup of coffee, late nights when I’m journaling, praying, or dreaming, driving with no destination and music low, building something that feels meaningful, serving without needing to be seen.
