Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennie Neathery.
Jennie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The Little Bird began as nothing more than a craft that I had taken up as a hobby, in designing and crafting signs for myself, friends and family. Word spread, and before we knew it, I was getting calls from friends of friends and I knew I needed to take this to the next level. I launched my website in September of 2017 and it’s been a whirlwind of growth and excitement ever since. I started The Little Bird from our house, using the guest room as an office and our garage as my workshop. Early next year, I will be moving to my own dedicated workshop and truly can’t wait to see where 2020 takes us!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although there have been many blessings in my journey, growth never happens without struggles. The hardest time in my business came last September when my oldest brother passed away suddenly. I was entering into my busiest time of year and had ramped up my marketing efforts the week prior. While in the midst of all that pain and grief, it would’ve been easy and preferable to close down shop for the season, but the Lord was faithful through the pain and I felt His calling to continue creating in my brother’s memory.
Through this trial, I was able to learn that success comes through sacrifice and growth happens when we make ourselves uncomfortable. The road to achieving your dreams is never easy, but that’s what makes those dreams so worthwhile in the end. My advice to those with a dream or those just starting out is to just GO! Stepping out in faith and saying yes is the hardest part of getting started, but the journey is so worth it in the end.
Please tell us about The Little Bird.
The Little Bird is a handcrafted sign studio that specializes in crafting the details that help make a house a home. All of my pieces are made from wood and paint and I am most proud to create a product that is made by hand from the heart out of high-quality materials and made to be an heirloom your family will cherish for years to come.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Growing up, I always admired the way my dad was always fixing something and taking care of our family by making sure the house was always in tip-top shape. I definitely get my work ethic and the desire to work with my hands from him.
All through my school years, my mom was a stay-at-home mom and I always knew I could count on her to be there when I needed her. Through that, I knew after I had our second baby that I wanted to stay home and spend as much time as possible with them. While running a full-time business and being a full-time momma gets tough at times, I wouldn’t trade getting to pursue my creative passion while being able to be present for my kids at the same time for anything.
