Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Turcios.
Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off using Instagram as a way to document little memories I wanted to keep. I was pregnant with my daughter, Mia. I had very little friends who could relate to the motherhood transition I was going through. Nevertheless, I used Instagram as a diary, documenting my daughter’s first ultrasound, my first purchase of baby clothes and every little bit in between. As a first time mom, I was confused and alone at times. Through these moments of ‘firsts’ and ‘mommy’ related posts, I found a community of moms through Instagram that I felt I could relate to and I could ask for advice. Through Instagram, I’ve made friendships and in a sense, I feel like I’ve found myself.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always a smooth road. As a young adult, you struggle to find yourself and on top of that, I was a first time mom. I have always had the support of my husband and my family. But motherhood is strange (and beautiful at the same time), it has you wondering if you’re using the correct brand of diapers or if you’re totally failing at this new parenting thing. I struggled finding myself again and trying to find a balance between juggling motherhood and the crazy things life throws at you along the way.
My advice to young woman going through motherhood for the first time is to find a good support system. No matter how out of place I felt, I could always count on my husband and family to uplift me with their words of encouragement and unending love for me. Second, find a community of women you can relate to, women you can talk to without feeling judged and you’ll see that we all face our struggles. And last, don’t ever be afraid to put yourself out there. More good comes out of being vulnerable than you think.
Please tell us about your business.
I’ve been a stay at home mom for almost 4 years now, and that plays a role for my Instagram presence. Most days, I like to explore Dallas and find new places to eat or fun events for my family to enjoy. And along the way, I like to document our adventures. I’m most proud of how much we’ve grown online and the opportunities that have come our way because of it. What sets us apart from others is that we keep ourselves humble and embrace our struggles because it’s a part of who we are.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
My advice is to young women starting a career is to work hard and push through the difficult times that come along. Keep focus on your goal and yourself. As long as you stay true to yourself and work hard towards your goal, it will all come together when it’s the right time.
