Life & Work with Ro Rynd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ro Rynd

Hi Ro, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been inspired by good design and fashion. After I graduated from Tulane University, I opened a store called Moxie in Atlanta, GA. I sold women’s accessories and fashions, then ventured into selling housewares and furnishings. I realized quickly that I was more drawn to the interior design aspect of the business. I sold the store and went to work for an interior design firm in Atlanta. While working for the firm, I also worked for The Discovery Channel on a show called “Surprise by Design”. Once I became pregnant, my husband and I moved to his hometown of Fort Worth to raise the kids. I picked up my design work locally.

In 2007, tragedy struck when my husband suddenly passed away. I was left alone to care for myself and my three young children. It was then that I realized more than ever that my design business was my biggest blessing. Some of my best work came out of that time of sadness and my clients were so amazing and supportive. As the years have progressed, I have grown my client base and my office at Local Design Studio and Gallery along with six other incredible women-owned businesses. I am grateful to go to work every day where women support women. As a result of our nurturing work environment, Kori Green of Kori Green Jewelry and I have co-founded two other companies. We created Clearly Handbags, which is a stylish stadium approved clear handbag line for required entry into most concerts and athletic events, We also created The Faceted Home, which is a fun home decor hardware line. It’s a great way to elevate cabinets and furnishings. Along with the growth of my businesses, I met and remarried, and now have five wonderful boys. My husband had also been widowed, so we’ve been able to meld our families and give our boys the mother and father that they needed. My life has not always been easy, but I am incredibly grateful for my design businesses. They’ve led me to people and places that have enriched my life and given me more blessings than I can count.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My motivation with my interior design has always been to help my clients use elements of their own style, along with my recommended additions to create beautiful and seamless spaces. I’ve always said that a relationship with an interior designer is much like that of a therapist. Once you find one that you really mesh with, everything falls into place! I’m so grateful for my clients and work with many of them over and over again. I do think that my additional businesses set me apart from other designers because I am constantly creating and am given the opportunity daily to be truly creative and original in other areas. I’ve learned so much about resourcing, product placement, inventory, and even social media. I am most proud of the opportunities that I have created for myself through my businesses. My work allows me to be authentic in my pursuit of success. I love what I do, so it shows.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very much a rule follower growing up. I always studied hard and made good grades. Looking back, I put these pressures on myself. I loved the “atta boys” from doing the right thing and checking things off of a list. It wasn’t until my adult life that I learned to be more adaptable; and that one way wasn’t necessarily the only and right way. When my husband passed away, it rocked my world. I had to make changes to survive.
