Today we’d like to introduce you to TyDerrica Scott.
TyDerrica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started makeup when I was 13 years old, it all started because of a family member and as my life went on It became something I did to ease the pain of being a fatherless child. So, some people see it as an art or hobby, but I see it as therapy! It’s very soothing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Advice to women of all ages, be you and don’t let people around you control your emotions or control your goals. If you never start, you won’t ever reach your destination. Your goals won’t be important to other people like they will be to you, so you have to be ready to accept negative comments, criticism, and Debby Downers! If you learn how to accept those three things without it bothering you, then you will excel tremendously! My journey was definitely not easy but I didn’t give up on myself. I knew what I wanted. I love this and I’d never give up a goal so precious and meaningful and you shouldn’t either GO HARD OR GO HOME!!!
Please tell us about TymeWithTy .
I’m well known for colorful exciting looks and glitter so more than likely 95% of the time I’m rarely wearing a natural face. I’m different from other brands and MUA’s because I don’t just do/teach makeup, I teach life lessons. I’m a very encouraging woman and I don’t do this for fun, I do it to actually help some women gain confidence.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
Honestly, women are so afraid of other women and it’s sad honestly, if all of us were the same and on the same level, then who would we have to look up yo? Who would we go to for inspiration? It’s like women are so afraid of someone being more skilled than they are or more popular than they are when in all honestly, someday, we are all gonna be in that same position that our role models once were in, if you stay patient and consistent. There’s no telling where you may end up, but sometimes, people block their own blessings, so they’ll remain in the same position.
