Life & Work with Alicia Lansford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Lansford.

Hi Alicia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I began my photography business three years ago, right before the pandemic. My husband and I lived in Utah while he were finishing up school. He was also on a golf scholarship and was constantly traveling. I needed something to do for myself while he was away. I have always had a creative spirit and enjoyed creating anything I could, but photography is what fit me most. I bought a camera that could help me start my newfound hobby. That hobby slowly turned into a business that began to grow.

As my business continued to grow, the pandemic hit, and my dream was put on pause.

In 2021, things started to progress and change. I became a mother and found a new inspiration and drive to start again. Now I am at a point in my career that has been more than I could have ever imagined and I am so grateful and excited.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say that it has been the opposite of a smooth road, but an exciting learning experience. The pandemic really put a wrench in things and made me evaluate where and what I wanted my business to be. The whole process has been very rewarding and enjoyable. Mostly, I want to be proud of my struggles and use them as motivation to try and try harder. I have seen that in the last year as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would describe myself as a Lifestyle and Wedding Photographer. I enjoy working with families, kids, couples, etc…. When I first decided I wanted to become a photographer, I was mostly photographing families and couples. But I always knew that I wanted to photograph weddings. It was a difficult start but then I found myself in a really supportive community that wanted me to grow and be a part of their team. I have now been a part of more weddings as a second or associate shooter as I have began to book some of my own clients.

The thing I am most proud of is my commitment to persevere and grow. It has been scary to jump into something new but it has been very fulfilling and inspiring. I have enjoyed learning and working with really wonderful people.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I like to set my goals into short-term and long-term goals. One of my short-term goals includes owning my own studio where other creatives will be able to rent and use for their own photo sessions. My big life-long goal is to have my work featured in Vogue. Just the thought of it brings me so much joy and the courage to conquer it.

Ultimately, I want to continue to learn and offer the best to my clients. I owe it to myself to be the best entrepreneur I can be and that comes with taking risks and working hard. Gaining knowledge in every aspect. Learning new skills like videography, managing/growing a team, traveling around the world for my work. I want to look back 10 years from now and know I made a difference and to have the bravery to keep going.
