Life & Work with Ana Lico

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Lico.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My shop was birthed out of a period of intense emotional and spiritual growth due to my metamorphosis into a new mother. I felt like I was finally becoming who I was meant to be. I’ve always been passionate about art and creating but my fear and lack of confidence kept me from acting upon all of my ideas. This shop was created out of my belief that people are canvases too and I wanted to create something that served as more than an accessory but rather an artistic choice. I love to express myself through my fashion choices so this was the perfect opportunity to manifest this extension of myself onto the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The opening of my shop fell into the timeline of Covid and the lockdowns so at first, I was hesitant to pursue it further. However, I realized this was an opportunity to give back and it also gave me and my family hope that things would be okay for us during the chaos that was happening at the time. Even through slow seasons, I have felt God guide me through them, encouraging me and allowing me to see the light in every situation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to incorporate my love for drawing and illustration onto my necklaces by creating handmade charms that serve as the centerpieces. Each necklace is inspired by thoughts, feelings, and memories channeled through my synesthesia that allows me to assign colors and visual Imagery to my thought life. This is part of the reason my necklaces are 1 of 1 and why each one of them holds such a special place in my heart.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I know that everything that has been possible for my shop has been through God and our connection. It’s what’s gotten me through my art blocks and moments of no motivation. I also feel like my name change (my shop had a different name prior to Rainy Gems) changed a lot of things including my feelings about my brand. Lots of good things started happening after I changed my shops name and I feel like it was because it was inspired by my daughter’s name. It all makes more sense now and it feels like it’s all coming full circle.
