Life & Work with Andy Rodriguez of North Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Rodriguez.

Hi Andy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Music On My Mind back in October, and now more than half a year later, it’s been a great adventure! I had a pretty simple idea – I wanted to help promote local bands by interviewing them at their playing venue. As a musician, I have had the honor of performing with and alongside amazing musicians and some of the tightest bands around the DFW area. I have always been a fan of interviewer-style videos on YouTube, such as Nardwuar and Sean Evans, and I love being around a camera, be it in front of or behind it, so why not bring a camera with me to shows and interview the artists and bands in my community? Let me highlight the people in our cities because, honestly, they deserve it! It started with a local show for Suite Sensations from Arlington. They were my first interview, and since then, I have met so many other amazing and talented bands. I try to keep up with as many bands on social media as I can and get invited to shows all of the time. It’s truly an honor that people think of me to be interviewed and for me to have them on the show.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s crazy to see how much growth I’ve seen, and I’m genuinely proud of it. Music On My Mind started and is still a one-man show behind the scenes. I edit and create all the videos and do everything needed to keep going, whether it be the social media aspect, marketing, connecting with the bands to do interviews and anything else that needs to be done. I’ve learned that scheduling and communication are very important. Passion and practice help me keep going, and I want to thank all of the bands I’ve made connections with for their patience!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have the privilege to have a lot of awesome things going on in the world of music. First and foremost, as an educator, I get to teach people about music. I teach people of all ages how to play instruments and sing. I get to experience others learning about this art, and it is so rewarding. As a musician, I said it before, but I can’t stress it enough because I get to play with some of the best musicians in the area. I love performing and I’ve done it all my life in some sort of capacity. Finally, as a creative, I am proud of Music On My Mind being able to help elevate the music community. I love learning about new musicians and bands, making friends with as many as possible, and getting their stories out there!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Definitely honesty, confidence, and passion. I’m all about positivity and giving back to the community. Also, being able to enjoy and appreciate the little wins in life.
