Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Caudillo.
Hi Angelica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When the pandemic started my job sent me home for 3 months. I had come across a candle-making kit when I was trying to keep my 7-year-old busy and entertained since the schools had closed as well. I used it as a “science experiment” which ultimately it is. What started as something fun for my daughter and I grew into a small business for myself. Granted I didn’t start my small business during covid I just launched last month in March of 2022. My hobby of candle-making started during the 3 months that I was at home during covid. It wasn’t until my boyfriend Jorge and my family encouraged me to start my business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a challenging journey. I didn’t know anything about setting up an online shop or getting a DBA/ LLC. But it’s all part of the process, nothing comes easy.
Also making scents is somewhat of a challenge in itself. Not everyone has the small liking for scents. I can prefer something floral and you could possibly like masculine scent over floral. So, I do have to be mindful when I am making and testing scents because I may not like the scent but it could be my #1 seller.
I get asked if I make the candles myself, yes, I do. From melting the wax to mixing the fragrance oil (we mix the fragrance oils so they are custom made and that’s what also makes us unique) to pouring in the vessels. We are constant
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Four the Girls Co is made from 100% Coconut Apricot Creme wax, it’s a little bit more of a luxury wax. Very smooth and creamy leaves a beautifully smooth top and just gives a great cold and hot throw. We also use FSC-certified wooden wicks. Everything from the candle jar to the packaging is either reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable.
We offer wholesale and custom event favors candles and wax melts. I’m also thinking about adding a monthly subscription but also incorporating some other small business’s items with the candle subscription (kinda how BoxyCharm does it)
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I would hope I have a storefront in Dallas. Where people are able to go in and smell my candles in person But I don’t want just a candle store, we will have much more to offer. I think that’s why I didn’t name my business “candle company” because I see more for my business and I didn’t want to limit myself to just candles.
