Life & Work with Cartier Tre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cartier Tre.

Cartier Tre

Cartier, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1999 and moved to Texas in 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. My family lost everything. We moved around North Texas for a some years, then found a home in Frisco, where I started pursuing music at 12 years old, I didn’t want to be an artist at first, so I focused more on producing and audio engineering. I only had a laptop apple headphones and some subpar speakers, but we made it work. Because I focused more on the production side, this led me to connect with other artists and producers in the Dallas music scene; we also have traveled around north Texas showcasing our talents doing live performances and shows, eventually driving me to become an artist. Seeing everything just inspired me my brother(Lonnie Stark) and my cousin (Mall Prime) more to create our own vision and artistry. This led us to create tapes like “OGCARTI,” “GLASS CEILINGS,” “TIME/SPACE,” “26 LIGHTERS,” “HARD LOVE,” “CONTROL,” and “777 X 1111”. Being that I knew how to produce audio Engineer and create lyrics created the perfect atmosphere for artists and creatives to grow and constantly evolve, so the collaboration tape with Yung Coop (artist friend) called “Suite Life Of Cartier & Coop“ which showed our supports we are top-level artist and performers. At this point in our careers, I’m currently focusing on evolving my sound and image as we move through life as adults, trying to incorporate and translate the change of life into music.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road I few struggles would include lack of funding which is the main problem because we do everything ourselves; we are independent artists, so everything that comes with that we deal with. Another struggle is the societal stigma that no one supports you until you’ve made it challenges us and creates doubts, but I’ve learned to just focus on creating the music, and the doubts usually fade away. We had to deal with false expectations from labels, Label contracts, celebrity figures, etc. which can kill your motivation. But we use the positives because we know if they like it there’s a market for it. Also, with leaches that just wanted our money. But this has all proved to be trails and tribulations and we’ve overcome by realizing we gotta just do this by ourselves.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started producing music at 12. People would compare my beats to Kanye West, Timbaland, Metro Boomin, and Pierre Bourne. This made me proud because these were artist and producers I listened to the most then I started audio engineering because I saw there was a lack of in Texas. It seems everyone wants to be the artist, which I understand, I eventually learned the ins and outs through experience and months of dedicated study from YouTube university and practice every day nonstop even if I was drained which then led me to become an artist. I had always created songs in my head sometimes even wrote them down and recorded, or I had my brother who is an artist rap them because I was too shy, but I eventually built up the confidence and knowledge to do it everything myself I’m known for my production, and it makes me happy when people scream my producer tag “CARTIER!” Becoming an artist caused me to step out my shell, and knowing the work I put in with post-production, I knew I had to do the same with creating lyrics and tone and feeling of the voice you want to be heard, so I studied and still study the greats to channel the energy and language that is being used for example like Michael Jackson. But I’m most proud of the fact that I overcame my fears and put in the work for myself. A lot of people don’t know that I actually couldn’t read when I first moved to Texas and that put me back a grade when I was in first grade so to say that I’m reading/writing creating stories and incorporating my own life story into music that people enjoy makes me the most proud. I would say my drive determination and work ethic sets me apart from others. I’m always working even when I’m having fun or a chill day

What does success mean to you?
I define success by the fruits of your labor. Even though everything is not about reward, you can get an understanding about the type of success you create for yourself and others. In your life there’s bad fruit that can kill you, and there’s also good fruit that can heal you.
