Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Mair
Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2013 I was a stay at home mom who needed a little extra income, so my best friend and I decided we’d start a little boutique out of our homes. We named it Swanky Chic Boutique and quickly became more popular than we expected. We outgrew our little space and in 2016 we finally opened our first storefront location on Main St. in Keller, Texas. Soon after we opened three additional store locations, as well as adding a shoppable app to our brand. Our stores were located in Keller, Grapevine, Wichita Falls, and Bentonville, AR. Swanky was thriving and growing faster than we could even keep up, until one day Covid-19 mandates forced us to shut the doors to all four of our store locations. Once we were able to reopen we had an employment crisis (like many businesses did at that time) and we ended up closing 3 of our 4 store locations. Fast forward to 2024 and the online business is booming again and the Swanky Chic location in Keller has rebounded (helped along by a full interior and exterior renovation in 2023, making it the most adorable boutique ever!) and now I’ve added the title of realtor to the list of services I offer my friends and clients! I am a real estate agent with Keller Williams in Southlake and I love incorporating my personal style and brand into my real estate business! I joke and tell people that I can sell them a dress or I can sell them a house! As a single mom of two teenage boys, life is hectic and working two businesses can be a lot, but my passion for helping others and continuing my entrepreneur lifestyle keeps me going full speed! My love of real estate has blossomed this year as I’ve found how much being an excellent realtor really boils down to customer service, which has been my specialty for over a decade! My story of overcoming so many odds as a small business owner, a female entrepreneur, and a single mom has felt empowering and motivates me to keep at it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My 2019 divorce, my mother also died of cancer in 2019, and then in 2020 all of my store locations were shut down due to Covid mandates.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Being a small business owner for 11 years with Swanky Chic has taught me so much about what people need. It’s not about what service or product you’re offering, it’s about the PERSON you’re offering it to. Learning so much about people and how to serve has helped me tremendously in my real estate business. I consider myself a concierge style realtor, meaning I take on the responsibility of making my client’s lives as stress free as possible while working with me. I am a do’er, I like to get my hands dirty, and I make it my mission to identify problems and stressors before they arise, leaving my clients with less to worry about knowing that I will go the extra mile to be sure they’re on the right path.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas. I always loved all things fashion and beauty. I used to draw dresses and high heels in my notebook and my mom would always say I should open a boutique one day and call it Courtney’s Closet. I’ve always been outgoing and social. I’ve always surrounded myself with a lot of friends and I’ve always loved to travel and try new things.
