Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Brown.
Hi Cynthia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Designer Accents has been serving the East Texas area for over 20 years. Originally providing Decorative hardware and plumbing fixtures to both the builder trade and the general public, we no longer supply pluming supplies but have expanded into wallpaper from many different companies, home furnishings and accessories and custom drapery appointments. We have always been the largest showroom east of Dallas, but since our move to 1109 N. 4th St. two years ago, we increased that considerably with almost 3000 square feet and the best selection of hardware in East Texas. We carry something for everyone regardless of taste and budget. If we don’t have what you are looking for we will find it for you.
My husband and I were looking for a business that we could “retire” into. I was a manufacturer’s rep and he is an oil and gas landman. When we saw this business we knew it was a perfect fit. Neither of us wanted to travel as much so we settled into Longview and this business. I had worked for a lighting company in the Metroplex for many years so it was a great fit.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course every business hits bumps and Covid certainly presented its challenges. Supply chain disruptions were our biggest issue but we managed to get every order filled. At times it was a jigsaw puzzle to get orders out the door, but thankfully we were big enough with many resources and managed to get everyone taken care of.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Designer Accents, we pride ourselves on customer service. That’s why we have been a Longview tradition for over 20 years. We put the “jewelry on your home” to make it special and uniquely yours so that you love coming home everyday. No matter your budget, we make your home the place you want to come to. We have records back for 20 years or more of home that we have supplied the hardware for. If a lock has an issue, if we can’t fix it we will help with warrant issues if we can. We are the only store I know of that can repair many locks.
We are Authorized dealers for Baldwin and Emtek in the area, so we are able to help customers with any issues that they might have.
I love working with the customers! I learn something new everyday and I love to see the creativity and visions they have for their homes. Everyday is a new adventure!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Always do your best at whatever task is in front of you and every job is the most important one that you have. Days and hours get long and its sometimes tempting to procrastinate or take a shortcut, but we have been in business for so long because we do not take short cuts and give our best to everyone. It only takes once to learn this lesson. We walk most property we supply hardware for to be sure we get everything that we can right. We color code the entire house up front to make sure the installation process go smoothly for the client. Changes may occur, but we can easily adapt.
Love what you do and take pride in your work and life becomes so enjoyable. I have so many good memories of projects that I have been privileged to be apart of and the wonderful people along the way. Always do your best and you will never have any regrets.
