Today we’d like to introduce you to Haleigh Tucker.
Hi Haleigh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve wanted to be a hairstylist since I was fourteen. I love watching movies and seeing the behind the scenes on how the looks were created. I tried going to college first to get a degree but was presented with a good opportunity to go to cosmetology school, so I went. After completing all of my hours and passing my state board testing I was able to start my apprenticeship at my first salon. Unfortunately very soon into that salon I realized it wasn’t the right fit so I completed my apprenticeship through them but left after to work at my current salon that I’ve been with for five years now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Both cosmetology schools I attended had their issues. The first I attended was a hour and a half away from where I lived so I would commute everyday, Monday through Friday, and more times than not sit through rush hour traffic on my way home. It was also a smaller school in a small town where everyone grew up knowing each other, so cliques became an issue which resulted in me leaving six months in and finishing cosmetology school closer to home.
My first salon was also not smooth sailing. They constantly had a revolving door of stylists in and out all the time. There was also a “hierarchy” working there that was used as a power play in the salon to the point where me and the other working apprentices were constantly being over worked and not actually being taught the learning material we were told we were going to learn through our apprenticeship. They thrived a lot more on each others gossip than anyone’s accomplishments.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in vivid colors and alternative styles which are my main passion. I also have taken special courses in curly haircuts and color as well as extensions.
I am most proud of my vivid transformations and my social media consistency. What sets my apart in the salon I work for is I do a lot of alternative styles and I love big transformations and block color placements. Any haircut or hair color that is unique or “unconventional” I’m the stylist for you!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like my passion for the industry is what’s most important to my success. I’m always down to learn and try new things and I am constantly staying consistent and motivated in my work.
