Life & Work with Heather Marie owner of KIESE & CO llc in Weatherford TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Kiesewetter

Hi HEATHER, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in photography began with a kit camera gifted by my mother, which had been stored away for a few years. After working in an unfulfilling minimum wage job, I decided to pursue photography more seriously. Within three months, I left that job and committed to building a career in photography. Initially, I focused on livestock photography, particularly show and club calves, with a few portrait sessions on the side. Over time, my work expanded to include family portraits, senior photos, equine photography, product photography, rodeo queens, sports, and studio imaging.

In 2016, I relocated from Oklahoma to Weatherford, TX, to establish my photography business. Over the past seven years, I have successfully rebuilt and grown my business in Weatherford. I opened a dedicated photography studio where I conduct at least 50% of my sessions. My studio work includes commercial branding shoots for real estate and business entrepreneurs, professional branding sessions, rodeo queens, pageant headshots, senior and family portraits.

Beyond the studio, I enjoy capturing the great outdoors, whether photographing or filming anglers on the coast or documenting waterfowl season in Oklahoma and Louisiana. My diverse portfolio reflects a commitment to excellence across various photographic genres. I strive to offer each client an exceptional experience and am dedicated to ensuring their satisfaction with every session.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first began rebuilding my business, it was a tough start. Word of mouth accounts for 90% of my clientele, and the COVID-19 pandemic posed a significant challenge. With people reluctant to go outside or save money due to uncertainty, the arts, including photography, took a hard hit. Like many others, I’ve faced ups and downs, and there were months when business was slow. However, through a mix of prayer and hard work, I’ve been fortunate enough to keep moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I photograph a wide range of subjects, from studio work to outdoor scenes like hunting and fishing. You might catch me in the studio, capturing an aspiring model as she prepares to submit her comp card to a top agency in Dallas. Or, you might find me hiking through the New Mexico mountains, tracking a bull elk to create stunning photos and videos for my clients. Each day at Kiese & Co llc. brings new and exciting challenges. What I cherish most about my business is the opportunity to contribute to larger foundations and organizations that support children, communities with a larger cause. I’m passionate about giving back and making a positive impact however I can.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I have observed that clients who truly value your work remain steadfast in their support, regardless of external circumstances. Additionally, it is crucial to always have a contingency plan in place, as unforeseen events can arise at any time.
