Life & Work with Jerry Williams of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Williams.

Jerry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Pinckney Michigan I got my start in Photography in 1976. I was exposed to Photography early on one of my family members worked in a studio in Detroit for many years.

My first real camera was a Canon AE-1 I got from a neighborhood friend I purchased some 35mm film I began shooting family events, nature, landscapes and portraits.

I shot this type of photography for many years as I got better at taking pictures I decided to try engagements and Weddings I did this for 7 years.

I continued shooting everything I could to be the best Photographer possable and create the ART I wanted to show the world.

Fast forward to 2009 film photography was being replaced by the computer the Digital Camera, this was the new age of photography.

I didn’t care for it at first they were making it very difficult to get film processed and prints made. I decided to purchase my first camera that year. I didn’t like the images I was getting out of the camera I understood how the camera worked I then decided to upgrade to a better camera my images improved I continued do this until today I have all professional cameras lenses and a fully operational studio.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think there are struggles with any form of ART that we do with that being said my struggles have been making the transition from film to digital Photography having to lean what to expect from a camera that is run by a computer rather than using film.

I had to learn the software to edit my images instead of using a darkroom to develop my film fortunately I really understood how a lot of the digital gear works I was able to overcome some of the challenges I faced early on.

Trying to get clients for studio and on location sessions trying to convince people that there are limits to using a phone for all their photography needs.

I had to learn what to do when the session isn’t going very well due to issues with my gear and/or the client isn’t happy with the images they see on my laptop.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been shooting pictures for 50 years I have shot everything landscapes, nature, closeup ( macro ), events, portraits, and weddings.

I am currently shooting mens and women models they come to my studio or we shoot on location to help expand there portfolio we use props all types of lighting and different themes to show off there talent.

I specialize in head shots giving them soft images or clean sharp images using light to give them a fashion look or some shadow to show some depth.

I’m known for giving my client images that needs almost no retouching images that they get very quickly because they’re good straight out of the camera.

I have given myself a Nickname sharpimage101 because one of my very good friends Dennis Meredith who loved photography as much as I do called me a pixelpeeper meaning I love sharp clean beautiful images. This name is what I use everywhere.

I’m most proud of being able to light most clients in such a way they love the images they see on the computer.

I have the ability to create something from nothing if the model doesn’t know what they want in a photograph we put are heads together plan very quickly a theme or mood I put together the lighting and/or using some props bring the image to life.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I was a bodybuilder for 20 years I trained 2 hours a day 6 days a week and competed in 3 local shows and took 2nd place in the gold cup in garden city Michigan in 1987.
