Today we’d like to introduce you to Laesha Brewer.
Hi Laesha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey has been anything but linear, but every detour has taught me the value of faith, resilience, and choosing purpose even when the path is unclear. I grew up in a split parent household and was raised by my mom as a single parent while my dad was traveling in the NFL. No one understands the effects of parents not getting along and what it does to the child, especially being an only child having no one else to lean on. Although my father was technically in my life, as a little girl at the time I did not feel him there; he was not present in my life, creating a sense of absence that shaped my early understanding of independence and identity. This dynamic forced me to adapt quickly, but I spent years searching for the stability and direction a father figure typically provides. The complexity of my family life intensified during my teenage years when my dad sued my mom for custody twice, first when I was 11 and again at 14. Navigating those legal battles at such a formative age added significant emotional and mental pressure, forcing me to grow up much faster than most.
In my early twenties, I moved to Orlando for a relationship, only to have it end in betrayal when the person I moved for cheated on me within the first two weeks. This began a defining season of struggle where I lived in over 11 different places in just five years. I was financially cut off by my father, and my mom was facing her own mental health and legal struggles. During this time, my car was totaled on the move to Florida, and I had to spend every cent I had on a cash car with no AC. I spent months driving in the Florida summer heat, struggling to pay rent and sometimes even to find food. A year later, I entered another relationship that led to my lowest point. I navigated the profound pain of two pregnancies, the first where I felt forced to make a choice I did not want to make, and the second which ended in a miscarriage. That season of loss forced me to take an honest look at my life and find my worth in something higher than my circumstances.
I began to build my courage through my work; when the real estate market dropped, I pivoted to the timeshare industry, becoming one of the top five sales representatives within my first two months. Eventually, I felt the Lord telling me it was time to go home to Texas. Since moving back, I have rebuilt my life with absolute intention. I serve as the Chief Giving Officer and Ambassador for the Jack Brewer Foundation, focusing on philanthropy and supporting underserved populations. This work is deeply personal because I have seen my family fully restored: both my mother and father have found the Lord, and I am now closer to my mom than ever. Intentionally building with my dad and seeing him be a father to my younger siblings is the biggest blessing. Today, I am the reigning Miss for America, using my platform to found my own movement, Made to Matter, which highlights testimonies of restoration. I also lead a prison ministry specifically for women, where I use my own story to help them find the identity and purpose I once had to fight for. While there is so much more to my story, I am honored to be able to share this with you.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
• The obstacles I have faced were designed to break my spirit, but they ultimately forged my grit.
• The most tangible challenge was the five year period of extreme instability in Orlando, where I navigated 11 different homes and constant financial insecurity.
• Losing my transportation and my savings simultaneously forced me to endure a Florida summer with no AC and a lemon car, often choosing between gas to get to work or a meal.
• My independence was forced upon me; being cut off by my father while my mother dealt with her own battles meant I had no safety net.
• The deepest obstacle was the emotional toll of the fatherless experience.
• Even when my father was in my life, as a little girl I did not feel his presence, which created a void that led me to search for validation in the wrong places.
• I struggled with the weight of reproductive loss and toxic relationships alone.
• Navigating the grief of a miscarriage and the trauma of a forced choice while being isolated was my breaking point.
• Professionally, I had to overcome the volatility of the economy, proving my resilience by reaching the top of a high pressure sales environment in weeks.
• Additionally, having family members navigate the justice system throughout my life created a unique set of challenges that influenced me to get into the line of work I am in today.
• These hurdles taught me that I can thrive in the heat, whether that is the literal heat of a Florida summer or the high pressure environment of executive philanthropy.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
What is most important to understand about my journey is that it is a story of total restoration.
• The fact that I now work alongside my father for his foundation is a miracle that reflects years of forgiveness and growth.
• My mother is now an amazing, God fearing human who stands by my side, and our family history with the justice system has given me a deep empathy that drives my prison ministry.
• Through my platform, Made to Matter, I advocate for women who feel defined by their past or the absence of a father in their lives.
• I recognize that a vast majority of incarcerated women share this same history of father absence, and I use my ministry to help them realize they are still chosen and valuable.
• I balance a high intensity career in real estate and philanthropy with the discipline of being a Pilates instructor and the grace of a national titleholder.
• I bring a unique perspective to any room because I have been the one in need of a miracle, and now I am in the position to provide them for others.
• I do not just talk about resilience; I am the living definition of it.
