Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Takano.
Hi Maya, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After high school, I went to college. Then after college, I went to graduate school. My whole life was always on deadlines, assignment, and prepping for that next exam. So, after graduation, I was sort of “lost” without always having something to do. I needed something! So, I decided to combine my love of cosmopolitan restaurant/bars/spots and social media. I started an Instagram and Tiktok page dedicated to my favorites spots in the city. My favorite thing is when people ask me for my recommendations on places to eat/stay/drink.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the struggles I faced was getting over what other people may think of me. Was I posting too much? Am I posting content that people want to see? Why are people unfollowing my page? Etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I showcase my favorite places in the Dallas and Houston areas through my Instagram and Tiktok page. Before I started my social media, I used to go to restaurants and be that girl that always took a photo of my food. Yes, my food would sometimes get cold but hey, “phone eats first!” Hence the name of my social media handle @texaseatsfirst!
Any big plans?
I continue to keep exploring the city and discovering new spots and sharing them with my followers!
