Melissa , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Melissa Garcia, and I was born and raised in the small town of Gainesville, Texas. I am a proud mother of three and happily married.
My journey in the beauty industry began in 2018 when I launched my cosmetics brand, Melyva Cosmetics. Building my brand allowed me to connect with incredible people and form lasting friendships within the social media and beauty communities. Like many others, the COVID-19 pandemic brought unexpected challenges, and in 2021 I decided to take a step back from my business.
In 2023, I returned with a renewed passion and rebranded my company. Although I no longer own the business today, my love for beauty and content creation has never faded. I continue to pursue my passion through social media, where you can find me as Simply Mely.
I am a self-taught makeup enthusiast who has worked hard to grow my platform and share my love of beauty with others. Throughout my journey, persistence has been one of my greatest strengths. There have been setbacks and challenges along the way, but I have never given up on my dream of being recognized as a makeup influencer and content creator.
My goal is to inspire others to believe in themselves, follow their passions, and never give up on their dreams. I hope my story shows that success isn’t always a straight path—sometimes it’s about continuing to move forward, even when life takes you in a different direction than you originally planned.
My faith has played a big role in my journey. I truly believe that with God, all things are possible. One of my favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Through every challenge and every blessing, I have trusted God’s plan and continued pursuing my dreams with faith, determination, and gratitude. ✨🙏💕
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been balancing my responsibilities as a wife, mother of three, and full-time employee while still pursuing my dreams. There have been many late nights, early mornings, and moments when I questioned whether I could keep going, but I refused to give up.
Another challenge has been trying to stand out in such a competitive and fast-paced social media world. There are countless talented creators, and it can be difficult to find your place and make your voice heard. Along the way, I have also faced criticism, negativity, and people who didn’t support my goals. At times, that was discouraging, but I learned that not everyone will understand your vision—and that’s okay.
Those obstacles taught me resilience, confidence, and the importance of believing in myself even when others don’t. Every challenge has helped shape who I am today and has made me even more determined to continue growing, inspiring others, and pursuing my passion for beauty and content creation. My faith in God, my family, and my determination have carried me through every setback and reminded me that anything is possible when you refuse to quit. ✨🙏💕
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work full-time as a Compliance Officer for Cooke County, a role that I truly enjoy. My work has taught me the importance of responsibility, organization, attention to detail, and serving my community. I take pride in being able to balance a professional career while also pursuing my creative passions.
Outside of my full-time career, I create content centered around beauty, makeup, cooking, and family life. As a self-taught makeup enthusiast, I enjoy sharing tips, product reviews, and beauty inspiration with my audience. I also love creating content that reflects my everyday life as a wife and mother, because I believe authenticity is what helps people connect with one another.
What I am most proud of is my ability to continue pursuing my dreams while maintaining a successful career and raising a family. What sets me apart is that I am relatable. I’m not only a content creator—I’m a working mom who understands the challenges of balancing work, family, and personal goals. Through my platform, Simply Mely, I hope to inspire others to follow their passions, stay true to themselves, and never give up on their dreams. ✨💕🙏
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
For me, my greatest mentor is God. My faith has been the foundation of everything I do, both personally and professionally. I believe He is the one who provides opportunities, opens doors, and guides me through every season of life. I often say that God is the pilot of my life, and I trust Him to lead me where I am meant to be. Without Him, I would not be where I am today.
When it comes to networking, what has worked best for me is being genuine and building real relationships. Through social media, I have connected with many wonderful people in the beauty and content creation industry. I have learned that success is not just about gaining followers—it’s about supporting others, staying authentic, and creating meaningful connections.
My advice to anyone looking for a mentor is to seek guidance from people who inspire you, but most importantly, keep your faith strong and trust God’s timing. Not every opportunity will come when you expect it, but the right doors will open when they are meant to. Stay consistent, be kind, work hard, and never stop believing in yourself and the purpose God has placed on your heart. 🙏✨💕
